Long-standing friends were very happy to be together again when Pam, Anne and Revd Clare visited Hettie recently.

Hettie sends her warm greetings to all the congregation.

  • Clare and family will be moving into The Manse later this month. We wish them every blessing in their new home in Pontypridd.

Thought for July

Lee Suan’s winning poem:

Six years and counting…

Six years ago it was a time of reckoning

It was a lonely time

it was a scary time

It was the time of Covid

It was a time of uncertainty

Gone was normality

There was a sense of urgency

In our midst an unseen adversary

It was the time of Covid

We had to self-isolate and social distance

They were paramount to our existence

We had to wear aprons, gloves and masks

Wash our hands, sing happy birthday twice (!) – not big asks

It was the time of Covid

We were in lockdown, planes were grounded, no more travelling

The world came to a standstill

No more commuting or visiting or revelling

Apart from MPs (!); that was the drill

It was the time of Covid

It was a time of loss, a cruel time, a time of pain

Devastating, shattering, heartbreaking

“I love you” floated across the ether time and time again

No proper goodbyes or hugs with loved ones; it was heart rending

It was the time of Covid

Face to face meetings disappeared

Zoom meetings and Microsoft teams appeared

Telephone clinics and remote consultations

Became the new lines of communications

This is the legacy of Covid

It was a time of achievement

The rapid advancement of science

Soon there was effective treatment

And potent vaccines; our show of defiance

This is the legacy of Covid

Hope has replaced despair

It is now the time for repair

Future viruses “Beware!”

We now have effective warfare

It was the time of Covid

Now the legacy of Covid

Six years and counting…
