Every year since 2019 (with a gap of 4 years due to Covid), the church I attend up north (Eccles Congregational Church) has held a creative writing competition in memory of a member called June Clayton who taught creative writing into her 90s. She died in 2018. The competition was held on 9 June 2026 and I entered for the 4th time. This year there were 7 entries and I won the June Clayton Memorial cup. Here is a photo of me with the mini trophy. Well done Lee Suan! (Her poem is at the end of the newsletter).- Message from Stephanie – Many thanks to everyone for their kind birthday cards and good wishes. I had a lovely day.
Thank you also for your support for me during my cancer treatment. I will start radiotherapy at the end of this month. It is so lovely belonging to such a caring church. - Message from Peter and Audrey Dear Friends,Audrey and I were thrilled with the opportunity to share worship time with you on Sunday 31 May.As it is written in the Gospel according to Matthew 22:37-39: 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. Our church family at St. David’s Uniting exemplifies the second Great commandment in their ministries and living word. Sharing and showing their love for others, far and near.Audrey and I are so blessed to have been and to be a part of the living word of God that is St. David’s Uniting family. The heart felt welcome from everyone on Sunday (31 May) warmed our hearts with love and joy to know that with all the years between now and our last physical attendance to St. David’s, everyone was so welcoming and gracious with their interest and time.Time is so precious and short. We regret we did not get the time to meet with everyone individually. We shook many hands with a brief, “Hello, good to see you again”, and were able to have longer conversations with others. The moments during coffee sped by and we were only able to converse with a portion of the congregation.St. David’s Uniting was our home of worship and praise for nearly two years. The memories and friendships made survive the test of time and we’re so very grateful to all of you for making our visit warm and a highlight to our visit to Wales this spring. We will continue to remain connected through the weekly post and newsletter, so faithfully delivered to our in-box. We managed to acquire a few email addresses to share more often the going’s-on in Canada with the deJong family.Thank you and may God Bless each and everyone of you for including myself and the whole deJong family to be part of the St. David’s Uniting family.
Oh, the move to Castle Square suits the needs of the congregation and is a lovely facility to gather to worship God.
With all our Love,
Audrey & Peter deJong
- Dave and Kath would both like to thank you all so much for the love and concern that everybody has shown with Dave going into hospital to have a ‘stent’ put into his aneurysm. The operation was a success, though it has taken a little while for him to recover, but he is getting there. The love of the church family is so important, thank you all again.
