St David’s Uniting Church Monthly Magazine – February 2026

January 24, 2026 / Alison Jones / News

What’s happening in February:

Language classes are held on Monday mornings at 10am in the Hall.

St David’s Guild is held at the Museum on Wednesdays at 2pm.  All are welcome to join in and experience the pleasure and joy of this mid-week fellowship. Refreshments are always served.

4th February – Guild dinner at Casa Bianca, Pontypridd.

5th February – The Open the Book Team will be at Coed y Lan Primary School.

11th February – Dr Daryl Leeworthy will be speaking about the author and dramatist Alun Richards. Alun grew up in Graigwen in the home of his maternal grandparents. His grandfather, Thomas Jeremy, ran a grocery business in Mill Street. Many of us will well remember the shop. He was educated at Pontypridd Grammar School and went on to train as a teacher. However he was fascinated by the sea and joined the Royal Navy and it was this that inspired much of his writing. He wrote extensively for the theatre and television. He wrote several episodes of The Onedin Line but is best known for his novel Ennal’s Point which is about the work of a lifeboat in South Wales.

He also published A Touch of Glory to mark the centenary of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1980.

18th February – Aleksandra Nikolajev-Jones is a Wales -based producer, fundraiser and creative facilitator working across arts, wellbeing and community development. Aleksandra trained as a ballerina and now leads programmes that amplify under represented voices, support women and families and uses creativity as a tool for connection, confidence and change.

25th February – Mandy Haydon-Hall. Pontypridd Foodbank started in around 2011 as a church project led by Father Michael Gable, initially based at St Luke’s Church Rhydyfelin, to provide emergency food for people in crisis in the local area.  The Foodbank has grown from a small volunteer effort to a significant community service requiring larger spaces, eventually moving to its current home at the Riverside Centre in Treforest.  With support from the local council to meet increasing demand, they have helped tremendously including during events like the Storm Dennis floods in 2020.
