• DIOLCH, THANK YOU, MERCI. A very big thank you to all in our congregation.
  You have made my milestone birthday special with your good wishes, cards and gifts. It has made me happy to share it in my second home, Saint David’s Uniting Church. A special thank you to Colleen who made my cockerel inspired birthday cake – especially in this very warm weather! Once again, THANK YOU all, and DIOLCH. Viviane

• Thanks to all the members of the church for thinking of me and sending a lovely card on my birthday. Many thanks also to all those who rang me. I hope to return to church in the near future when my legs allow – till then every good wish to you all. Sheila

Vena Edwards October 1926 – July 2026

Message from Jan – I am sad to report that Vena Edwards, a lifelong member of Castle Square died recently. Vena was a lifelong member of Castle Square from a baby until the church closed in 2022.  She was not just a member; she was part of the backbone of the church and a real worker. From a very young age she played the organ and piano in chapel. She did this until she was in her 90’s and her eyesight failed, but she could still sing the hymns as she knew most of the words!

Vena was a Sunday School leader and teacher. She put the flowers in church every Sunday, following in the footsteps of her mother, who had done so before her. Vena also decorated the church with flowers whenever there was a wedding. For many years, once a month, Vena’s Saturday evenings were spent in church, preparing Holy Communion, and arranging the flowers for the following day

Vena, and her late husband Wynne, were always welcoming to anyone who needed hospitality. Their door was always open, and they entertained folk with their amazing stories.  Vena was a thoughtful and caring elder for many years and was the pulpit supply secretary until the church closed – she was then 95 years old! Her amazing memory and wisdom were a great asset to the church as well as her kindness and compassion.  Vena was much loved by everyone who crossed the threshold of Castle Square. We will all miss her greatly.  Goodnight Vena, thank you and God bless xx
