Park Ramblers

At 10.15am every Monday – including Bank Holidays – the Park Ramblers meet outside B&M to start the week off with a walk around our beautiful park followed by coffee at The Gatto Lounge. If any arrangements change, walkers will be notified by email of any changes. All are welcome to join at their own pace or just join for coffee around 11am.  If the weather is very bad they may just go straight for coffee!! 😊

What happened in July

• Ny Ako (meaning the ‘echo’ in Malagassy) gave an outstanding performance in church at the beginning of the month. It was a very hot evening but this very talented group from Madagascar seemed oblivious to the heat! The group, consisting of dancers, singers and musicians,travels internationally to celebrate their culture. Their costumes were vibrant as was their dancing and their music. Such talent! Their performance was seamless and their version of singing part of the Hallelujah chorus in different languages (including Welsh) completed the wonderful evening.
• AGM – The AGM was held on Monday 29 June. There is a new Elders’ list with a few changes. A copy is on the wall in the hall.

August Eco Tips

The August Eco Tip from A Rocha is about encouraging people to look after wildlife in the heat.

Times of drought and dryness can be dangerous for wildlife.

• Provide water for birds and insects – put a dish of water out to help wildlife stay hydrated. Insects, small mammals, birds, and even badgers, foxes, and deer could benefit.

• A stone in a plant saucer helps bees to perch and drink without drowning. These small actions make a big difference and are just some of the ways we can live out our calling to care for God’s creation.

Recycling Plastic Bottle Tops

Maes y Coed School doesn’t have much outdoor space, and they wanted a place to grow flowers and plants. They saved plastic bottle tops which were processed and made intoplanters, which are proving very popular. They also have chairs and tables for outdoor use made in the same way. One of our Park Ramblers collects the plastic tops.  The only request is that they are washed and are NOT from spray bottles. So, if you want to help, start saving ALL plastic bottle tops, from milk, sauce, spice, makeup, shampoo and anything else you can find and pass them on to Marcia.

Colleen’s personalised cards are still only £3.00 but as always please give Colleen as much notice as possible if you would like her to make any of her beautiful personalised cards. She asks if you can please save the bags that she provides to display the cards in and return them to her once you have used the cards. Some people already do this and it’s much appreciated. This will in turn cut down on costs as she can recycle them and it’s much more environmentally friendly than throwing them away.
