20th April 2025

Pasg Hapus! Happy Easter!

Easter is a time for fresh wonder, new life, and new beginnings. We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time, as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection and triumph over death.

We are very fortunate to have people within our fellowship who have led services during Holy Week. Those who were able to join the Maundy Thursday Communion and the Good Friday service were given much to reflect on, and we thank Iestyn and Claire for all they did to present these services.

Our Easter Day service will be in the hands of Revd Ray Vincent and will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, when all, who so wish, are invited to share in the bread and wine.

During the service Phil and Kath Rickards, who were members of Capel Rhondda which closed on December 29th 2024, will be received into membership. We are welcome them!

Fair-traded Tea/Coffee plus Hot Cross buns! ~  will be served in the hall following the service, and hand-made cards will also be available. We invite you to join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Diary for the Week

Easter Monday          The Park Ramblers meet to walk at 10.15 followed by coffee in the Blueberry.

Next Sunday              Our Service at 10.45am will be led by newly ordained Revd David Powell of High Street Baptist Church, Merthyr, and will include Communion.

He is looking forward to being with us in our new home, and sends Easter blessings to all.

Pastoral Prayers

We can only include names when permission has been given.

  • We were sorry to learn that Marlene had been admitted to Royal Glam on April 11th, she is currently on ward 3, but has no discharge date.
  • We remember those of our fellowship who are unable to remember us, and we pray for their well-being. We also think of those we know who are in hospital.
  • We give thanks for those who ‘work’ every Sunday: those who open the doors and check that all is in order, the organists/pianists, the readers, those who control the Live streaming, those who give a welcome at the door, and coffee makers.
  • There are a growing number of people who are unable to worship with us because of illness or family responsibilities. A phone call or visit would let them know they are not forgotten!

Birthdays

There is only one person that we are aware of who will be celebrating this week and that is Anne Coles whose birth anniversary is on Wednesday 23rd. We hope you have a great day Anne.

Thanks….

…from Lynda   “Thanks to my church family for the cards, good wishes, gifts, cake and candle which made my birthday special”

Sharing Good News

Colleen (and Kev) had a great day last Monday when they went to Portsmouth to see their son receive his long service (20yrs) and good conduct medal. The ceremony was held in the room that the ‘D’ landings were planned.

Alison (and Steve) are delighted to share the news that their daughter, who lives in Australia. has announced her engagement to be married.

St David’s Guild

Aled Humphreys, the coordinator of Canolfan Calon Taf, a heritage and education centre, in Ynysyngharad’s War Memorial Park, gave us a very interesting and enthusiastic presentation on the activities and courses available there.

These courses aim to enrich the knowledge of the park’s one-hundred-year heritage while promoting well-being and learning. There are courses there to suit everyone, regardless of age, and an added bonus is that every activity is free. A full programme for 2025 can be found and booked online. If one is not online Aled invites you to pop along to his office to make enquiries. He will make you very welcome and says he makes a good cup of coffee!

It was our last meeting for this session. We reconvene in the first Wednesday of October. Thank you to all our members who have supported the guild.

Future Services

May 4th           Revd Ray Vincent (ZOOM)

                        May 11th         Christian Aid Service

                                    May 18th         Revd Branwen Rees

Church Directory

Many have asked when a ‘new’ directory will be issued?

You will be aware that to comply with General Data Protection Regulation, we completed forms giving permission for what we were happy to share.

It is hoped that the directory will be available soon. Collating the data is a massive task and we thank Catherine for all the work involved.  Please be patient.

Thought for the Week

If Easter says anything to us today, it says this: You can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there.

You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise!
