7th July 2024

We extend a warm welcome to everyone who joins us for worship today, especially if you haven’t been able to join us for some time.

Our good friend Haydn Blackey is leading our worship today: It is always a pleasure to welcome Haydn to St David’s and we look forward to what he has to share with us.

All are invited to join us for tea or coffee, which will be served in the hall following the service. Handmade cards will also be on sale.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We keep Sue Skym in our prayers as she and the family prepare to say farewell Matthew on Friday.
  • We continue to hold Sue Ruck in our thoughts as she has two very close family funerals to prepare for.
  • We think of George and Linda in Grand Cayman and pray that they have not been affected the Hurricane.
  • Marlene Mcloy came home from a coach holiday in Devon last weekend and has been really poorly ever since, we hope she recovers soon.
  • Gwyneth had her hip operation, but all did not go well, blood transfusions were required and she has to rest until Monday.
  • Anne Coles is waiting for the injection she received to take effect to ease her pain and discomfort.
  • We still keep Jean and John Davies in our prayers as neither are in good health.
  • There are members of our fellowship is who are struggling, others that are frustrated because of delays or waiting for scans to find out what is causing them problems.

There are two birthday’s that we are aware of this week and both are on Saturday 13th. Valerie Henson and Mary Howells.  We hope you both have an enjoyable day and are able to celebrate as you wish.

News from the Annual General Meeting

We are delighted to report that Anne Coles and Colleen Rowan were affirmed as Elders and that two former members, Tony Grigg and Sue Ruck were re-instated. A service of induction and a welcome service will be arranged in the coming weeks.

All current officers agreed to serve for another year. There was no update on Future Ministry.

On update to our new home, we were shown a series of photographs of the alterations. The Main entrance will be on the side. The former entrance will be a ‘refreshment station’ which will enable refreshments to be available if the hall and sanctuary are in use at the same time. A new energy efficient boiler has been fitted for the church.

The Clavinola will be placed at the back of the church with the speakers in position to provide better sound and the sound system will be installed with all wires concealed.

It is hoped that we will move in the first week of September. We will celebrate Refugee week in our new home when we will welcome/invite refugees to join us.

The next church meeting will be held at St David’s Uniting Church, Castle Street, Treforest. Date TBC

Retirement

Many will have heard that Vaughan Rees has accepted the offer to retire from his post as Chaplain of the University of South Wales. A Retirement Do will be held at the Meeting House on Thursday 18th July 2024, it will start from 12pm. If you are thinking of being there, please add your name to the sign-up sheet so we can let the chaplaincy know for catering.

~ Volunteers required!

With regard to serving refreshments at St Catherine’s, we are still waiting for confirmation that we will be responsible for serving on Tuesday 6th August from 11.30-14.30..

A Thought for Week

Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome.
