Church Family News
Most people will have heard that Russell Howells passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday 28th January. Russell had served the church in Pontypridd for many years, he had a number of ‘jobs’ including secretary at two of our parent churches, Carmel Baptist and Pontypridd United Church, he was an Elder, an enthusiastic member of Cantorion Gelliwastad and convenor of the Justice and Peace group until his illness prevented him taking an active role. We hold his sons, Michael and Richard, and Mary and Rhiannon in our prayers as they say their final goodbye at Russell’s funeral on Thursday 16th February, 12noon at the church, followed by the committal 1.30pm at Glyntaff.
We also heard last weekend that Simon’s Mum had passed away on Friday 27th January. We pray for Simon, Sue, Bethan, Ben and the rest of the family as they prepare for her funeral which will be held on Tuesday 21st February, 2pm at Chester crematorium, followed by a service of thanksgiving at 3pm in her church.
Janet Bayliss’s mother’s funeral will take place on Monday February 6th , 12 noon at Zion, (Tonypandy Methodist Chapel) , Tonypandy, with burial 1pm at Trealaw cemetery. Phil is conducting the service.
We continue to hold Janet and the family in our prayers
We have two recent casualties!
Roger has had a fall and hurt his left foot, the X rayed showed some damage of the soft tissue. Alan has had a fall in the garden and cut his head.
We remember them in our prayers along with Marilyn Young, Caroline and John Henson
Some News from the Church Meeting
There are two radio events happening soon. On 15th February Phil will be guest presenter on Radio Rhondda’s Faith and Music show. On 26th February Radio 4 will be presenting their show from St David’s Uniting church – more details to follow.
English lessons for refugees continue to take place in the church. If you know any teachers that are ESOL trained and willing to offer their time, please let an elder know.
Lent Books and Small Groups
Following a good response at the Church Meeting combined with a call to try something global in perspective from a few church members, this year our church Lent book contains reflections for each day of Lent from Christian writers across the globe and our small group Bible studies will follow this theme. Books cost £5, the sign up sheets are at the back and orders need to be in by February 13th.
Sign up sheets for small group study will follow shortly.
The Leprosy Mission
The amount sent to TLM this year was £558.65. A thank-you poster is on the notice board. For those who would like to contribute there are ‘new style’ leprosy boxes on the table, please feel free to take one. The ‘old style’ boxes can still be used.
I want to personally thank everyone so very much for their kindness in giving. Pat Howell
