30th June 2024

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time

We have a ‘new’ guest minister leading our worship today. It is our pleasure to welcome Rev Rob May.

Rob is Regional Minister of the South Wales Baptist Association; he joined the association in 2023 having previously served as minister in three churches in England. He trained for ministry at Spurgeon’s College in London after working as a teacher of PE, Maths and RE.

Tea and coffee will be served in the hall following the service, and handmade cards will be on sale. Please join us for this time of informal fellowship and catch up on news with friends.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We heard this week that Sue Ruck has suffered the loss of two family members, her niece passed away unexpectedly just 5 days before Sue’s brother, who had been ill foe some while. We keep her in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
  • We continue to hold Ianto, Bethan and the family in our thoughts as they say ‘Goodbye’ to Meinir (Ianto’s Mam) on Thursday at Salem Chapel, Canton, Cardiff.
  • We think of Sue Skym as she and the family prepare to say farewell to Sue’s son Matthew next week.
  • Jean and John Davies are both suffering with chest problems, please hold them in your prayers.
  • Gwyneth is pleased to say that she is having her hip operation on Tuesday. She will be out of action for a while, but it will be worth it!

General Election ~ Questions to candidates

Thank you to everyone who suggested a question for the candidates during last week’s service. The Elders and Rev Ray Vincent met with Fr Gareth Leyshon of St Dyfrig’s Catholic Parish and collated them into a shortlist to send to candidates. You can read the questions and the candidates’ responses on the ‘Questions to Candidates‘ page of the Our Lady of the Valleys RCT website. olovrct.org.uk

Preparing to move to our new home!

We have a number of books that need to be taken to charity shops, so please bring a bag and take some to any charity shop of your choice. It may be better for some people to go outside Pontypridd when parking outside shops is easier. There may be other items that we need to dispose of in the coming weeks. Your help will be much appreciated.

Celebration

It’s just three weeks to our Celebration Service, so it’s not too late to share any special moments or events, that you can remember, that you would like people to hear during the service. They can be memories from your time in Carmel, St David’s PCW or Pontypridd United. Yes, we know that’s a long time ago, way before we became St David’s Uniting! So, start reminiscing and see if you have anything to share, including photographs and pass them to your Elder.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM is on Monday July 1st at 7.00pm. If you haven’t had a copy of the minutes and Agenda there are copies on the table, along with the Apologies sheet to sign if you are unable to attend.

It’s a pleasure to report that 2 of those nominated to be Elders, Anne Coles and Colleen, have agreed to serve if affirmed at the meeting.

    Volunteers required!

We are doing our bit to welcome and support the Eisteddfod as it comes to Pontypridd.

OUR church will be used as a venue for competing choirs to rehearse and we, along with other local churches will be involved in the ‘Church Hub’ based in St Catherines, where we will be serving free coffee and Welsh cakes.  So it will not be a makeshift kitchen in a tent but a fully equipped kitchen!

We hope to be responsible for manning the kitchen on Tuesday 6th August from 11.30-14.30. This is still to be confirmed. If you are able to help, please add your name to the sign-up sheet or tell Maralyn Tomlinson.
