28th May 2023
We welcome you all to our service today, which is being led by Rev Ray Vincent: It is Pentecost a day on which we celebrate the work and wonder of the Divine Spirit.
The symbol is one that Phil shared with us on Pentecost 2021, when we decorated flames and displayed them outside Church House, Castle Square URC and St David’s.
These are the other symbols and text that accompanied the flames.
‘From gentle doves to honking wild geese; whipping wind to flames of love, there are many symbols for the mysterious Spirit who is still revealing fresh ways of seeing and sharing God’s love in our lives and world’
As Ray leads our worship may we all experience something of the enthusiasm and power that the Holy Spirit gives. Our service will include Holy Communion and all are invited to share in the bread and wine.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.
- We remember John Davies, who has not been well, and Jean in her concern for him.
- We think of those who don’t venture far from their homes or are still uncomfortable in enclosed places and do not feel able to worship with us in person. We especially remember Barbara, Chris, Cyril, Hettie, Hilary, Janet, Lorraine, Sharon and Marilyn Y. We hope that they may be able to worship with us again as we do miss them.
- We give thanks for our Church Elders as they continue to deal with the day to day running of the church, making sure that everything runs smoothly. They are the pillars of our church.
Birthdays…..
These are the birthdays that we are aware of this week: Monday 29th Jayne Bright and Margaret Morris. ~ Wednesday 31st Deborah Jones, ~ Thursday 1st John Davies, ~ Friday 2nd Liz Henson, also on Thursday 1st Marilyn Young, who will not be so young – she will be celebrating her 80th birthday. CONGRATULATIONS Marilyn! We hope you are all able to celebrate in some way.
Good News
We are delighted to share the news that Colleen is now able to drive again having received the results of her recent scan and given the OK. We also share in Colleen and Kev’s joy on the occasion of the wedding of their son Mark to Leigh, which is taking place at Bryn Meadow Golf Hotel today (Sunday). Colleen has been very busy making place names etc as well as the wedding cake!
Orders for her handmade cards will now be back to normal, and will be available in the hall today.

News from the Elders Meeting
The AGM will be held on Monday July 10th at 7pm, Rev Stephen Best will chair.
Leaving St David’s Uniting Church Building. The present situation:
We continue to work with Steve Knott of Ferrier Hart Thomas, Building Surveyors and await their plans for Castle Square building which have been promised to us by the AGM when they will be shared with you all.
Despite the delay, it is cost and time effective to continue to work with this firm as they are well aquatinted with St David’s Uniting and Castle Square buildings.
We realise that it seems as if nothing is happening but we eagerly look forward to progress by the AGM.
2023 First Quarter Finance Summary
Income £7917, Expenditure £10,548. There is a deficit of £2,631 for the first three months of the year mainly due to the increase in energy bills e.g. ~ the gas bill for the church has gone up from approx. £200 to approx. £600.
Basement
The basement was flooded last month due to a night of heavy rain and blocked drains. We noted our thanks to Robert for removing most of the water with a wet vacuum, we are arranging to hire a dehumidifier to dry the rooms out.
