28th April 2024

We would like to give you a warm welcome, but unfortunately the church boiler is not working, so we apologise. We have tried to contact as many people as possible. There are rugs and blankets available.

However, we still welcome you and hope that you will experience the warmth of fellowship with us as you join us for worship today, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time.Rev Martin Spain, the Officer for Ecumenical & Inter-faith Relations for URC Wales, is leading our worship today and we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper during the service, when all, who so wish, are invited to share in the bread and wine with us.

All are invited to stay and chat with friends in the hall following the service, when, as usual a good range of handmade cards will be available to purchase, all proceeds go to church funds.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We think of Alison, Steve and the family, as they prepare for the funeral of Alison’s Mum, Diana Hayns.
  • Elsie will get her scan results and treatment plan, this Tuesday. We got it wrong last week!!
  • Most people will have heard that Brian is in hospital, again! A CT scan has shown that the cancer has increased and there is swelling of the brain which, thanks to steroids, has started to reduce, thus making him less tired and confused.
  • We keep Kath and Dave in our thoughts as Dave starts his course of treatment at Velindre on Monday.
  • Like many people, Margaret and Chris are now benefitting from a stairlift and are very pleased with it.
  • We think of those for who this time of year has sad memories or would be an anniversary.

Birthdays

There are no birthdays that we are aware of this week.

Thanks……

….. from Anne Coles…Thank you for cards and messages received for my birthday from my church family as Lynda said last week, they are wonderful,

…..from Alison (& Steve)…. We have been amazed and overwhelmed by the cards and messages received from our church friends, Thank you all so much, your kind words have been much appreciated.

Christian Aid Week – 12th – 18th May

A reminder that there will NOT be a Zoom service in May as the second Sunday is the start of Christian Aid week and we will have the pleasure of welcoming Rebecca Elliot, from Christian Aid Cymru, to our service. The service will be followed by tea/coffee and cakes. All money raised will be donated to Christian Aid. If you would like to bring a cake to sell, please let Liz or Catherine know.

An Apology

It is our practice to share our services, including Zoom services on our YouTube Channel. Unfortunately, this did not happen last week. We apologise to those who therefore were not able to worship with us.

Raising Funds for Charity by Walking

Logo for 30 miles in 1 day charity showing a footprint with the words 30 miles 1 day on the soleBethan has joined Ianto so often during his training, that she has been invited to join him on the ‘30 miles in 1 day’ walk from the Aneurin Bevan Memorial Stones, Tredegar to Velindre Hospital, Cardiff on 14th June that his employers are taking part in. They will raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre, which provides specialist care, support and treatment to cancer patients and their families. This cause is close to Ianto’s heart as his mother has been affected by cancer. If you would like to sponsor them, speak to Bethan.

Today is your last opportunity to donate to the URC Commitment for Life appeal for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. There are collection plates on the back table.

Thought for the week

For the Garden of your daily living

Plant three rows of peas

  1. Peace of mind . 2. Peace of heart  3. Peace of soul

Plant four rows of squash

  1. Squash gossip  2. Squash indifference  3. Squash grumbling      4. Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce

  1. Lettuce be faithful  2. Lettuce be kind      3. Lettuce be patient    4. Lettuce really love one another

No garden is without turnips

  1. Turnip for meetings  2. Turnip for service  3. Turnip to help one another

To conclude our garden must have Thyme

  1. Thyme for each other  2. Thyme for family  3. Thyme for friends

Water freely with patience and cultivate with love

There is much fruit in your garden because you reap what you sow.                                                Author unknown
