27th April 2025

We welcome everyone to our service today whether in person or via live-stream.

This Sunday is often referred to as ‘Low Sunday’, it is a day of reflection and calm after all the celebrations of Easter, and supposedly the day Jesus appeared to Thomas.

Our service today is being led by Revd David Powell of High Street Baptist Church, Merthyr Tydfil.

David has been a ‘guest’ preacher many times, but this is his first visit to us since his ordination last October, and his first visit to our new home. We are very pleased to welcome him.

The service will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, and all are welcome to share in the bread and wine, we pray that we may all leave the service refreshed and with vigour to face the week ahead.

We invite you to join us in the hall to catch up with friends following the service when Colleen’s Handmade Cards will be available to purchase/or order. Large cards are £2 and small ones £1.50. All proceeds go to church funds. No refreshments this week, sorry!

Pastoral Concerns

We can only include names when permission has been given.

  • As Catholics all over the world mourn passing of Pope Francis we give thanks for the changes he has made during his reign.
  • We continue to hold Marlene in our prayers as she has now been discharged from hospital.
  • We think of those of our fellowship who are coming to terms with the sudden loss of a close friend.
  • We remember those who live alone and are not in good health, and pray that things will improve.
  • We give thanks that those who are receiving treatment are responding well.
  • We pray that those who are on holiday may return refreshed and ready to face the work ahead.

Birthdays

There are two people who have their birthday’s this week: Mark Crowley Sunday 27th April, an ecard will be sent to Mark in USA, and Emily Owen who will be celebrating on Saturday 3rd May.

Thanks….

…from Anne C  “Thanks to my Church family for the cards, phone calls and gifts I received for my birthday, they are wonderful”.

Christian Aid Week 2025 May 11th to 17th  ~ 80 years

This Christian Aid Week we’ll follow the story of Indigenous communities in Guatemala as they face the challenges of the climate crisis and industrial plantations which are ravaging the farms and livelihoods

Envelopes are available, please fill in the attached form if you wish to gift aid your donation.

This May, Christian Aid marks 80 years. Did you know that our work began at the end of the Second World War in 1945 when we were founded by the British and Irish churches to support refugees in Europe? On the first Sunday after VE day, churches came together to pray for peace and they asked war-weary people to give generously and unconditionally to those who needed support. More than £80,000 (the equivalent of around £3 million in today’s money) was collected at that time for emergency supplies in mainland Europe. 80 years later, Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.

Future Services

Our traditions! The Copper Pot.

This was first introduced many years ago by the late Haydn Goodfellow of St David’s Presbyterian church for people to put their donations in, in response to the Quinquennial Appeal for a specific charity.  After the appeal the copper pot remained and people were encouraged to put their ‘loose change’ in it which would then be donated to local charities. Haydn looked after the distribution of the pot until 2014.

We continue to accept donations and will always welcome suggestions for a worthy local charity.

Some past recipients: Christians against poverty, The Chaplaincy, RCT Young Carers and Mind Cymru,

Thought for the Week

“A person may be haunted with doubts, and only grow thereby in faith.
Doubts are the messengers of the Living One to the honest.
They are the first knock at our door of things that are not yet, but have to be, understood.
Doubt must precede every deeper assurance; for uncertainties are what we first see when we look into a region hitherto unknown, unexplored, unannexed”.

George Macdonald
