26th January 2025
We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time
As a ‘Uniting’ church we are fortunate in being able to invite people from our parent denominations, to lead our worship. Today we are very pleased to welcome Rev Rob May, Regional Minister of the South Wales Baptist Association.
Rob will be presiding at Communion when we will welcome Ugo into the fellowship of our Church. All are welcome to partake of the bread and wine.
We invite you to stay and chat following the service when handmade cards will be on sale in the hall.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:
- We think of Steve, Alison and the family as they prepare to say a final goodbye to Steve’s Mother ~ Beryl Eirwen Jones, who passed away of January 6th. The funeral will be held on Thursday 30th January at Oak Tree Funeral Home Treorchy at 11.15, followed by Interment at Treorchy Cemetery at 12 Noon. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Alzheimer’s Society.
- Stephanie is much improved and is now waiting for new appointments to replace the ones that had to be postponed.
- When Jean Davies had a fall last Thursday it was hoped she would be discharged on the Saturday – as of Friday this week she is still in Prince Charles, we keep her in our thoughts.
- There are many who are unable to join us for worship, ~ an occasional phone call would be much appreciated by them.
Birthdays
There are two people who will be celebrating their birthdays this week;
We have no doubt that Elsie Bennett will celebrate in style on Tuesday 28th January! While Mo Chester will be blowing out the candles on Thursday 30th January. Enjoy the day ladies!
Thanks….
…. “I would like to say a BIG thankyou to everyone for the cards, flowers, phone calls and prayers for myself and Alan, they were much appreciated. I hope to be back in church soon!” Stephanie
Leprosy Mission Appeal
Today, World Leprosy Day, is the closing day for this appeal. Margaret Morris will accept donations.

Clare is a mature student in her final year and will graduate this summer.
She has met the pastorate call group twice, and they have now invited her to ‘preach with a view’. She will therefore be visiting the pastorate for the weekend of 22-23 March. Details of the weekend are yet to be finalised, but Clare will lead worship in the pastorate on the Sunday morning. Please keep the whole weekend free so that you can meet Clare informally and attend worship under her leading.
(More details of the weekend will be shared as soon as arrangements have been made.)

St David’s Guild
Last week Wil Jones kept us engrossed outlining the facts about Dr William Price but interspersing them with humorous details of his life. Dr Price was one of the most flamboyant and charismatic characters in Welsh history. He is often portrayed as an eccentric individual whose obsession with druidism resulted in the cremation of his infant son. However, people forget that he was a brilliant scholar and a surgeon at the young age of twenty-one. He opened the first cooperative society in Wales called Pont y tŷ pridd and fought hard for striking miners and iron workers. Wil summed him up as follows……”heretic, argumentative, self-centered, clown, socialist, humanist, pagan, fanatic, rebel, law expert and romanticist.
This week Dr Oliver Davis, senior lecturer in archaeology and Civic Mission at Cardiff University, will be giving us an illustrated talk on the Caer Project: the hidden hillfort and the power of community archaeology.
