23rd February 2025
We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, especially if you are visiting, or worshipping with us for the first time.
Our service today is being led by our good friend Rev Aled Edwards and will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, when we invite all, who so wish, to share in the bread and wine with us.
All are welcome to stay for a chat following the service when handmade cards will be on sale in the hall.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:
- We are sorry to hear that Stephanie has been readmitted to RGH, we hope it won’t be for long
- We have no further news on Jean Davies who is currently in Ysbyty Cwm Cynon.
- People who are concerned about the health of close family.
- We remember those who have had hospital visits which have left them exhausted!
- We think of those for whom this time of year holds sad memories
- We give thanks for ‘good’ news and we remember those for whom news has not been so good.
Birthdays
There are three people that we know of who will be celebrating this week: Janet Butler on Friday 29th February. Barbara Slade and Pam Mahoney both on Saturday 1st March. Enjoy the celebrations ladies!

Robert gave us a fascinating talk about two very well-known early women photographers. Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) steered her photographs away from the stilted set Victorian portraits and would show people as they really were …their personalities and inner being.
Dorothy Lange was an American documentary photographer and photo- journalist. Her photographs influenced documentary photography and humanised the consequences of the Great Depression.
This week we look forward to welcoming Caryl Williams who will be entertaining us with her singing and guitar accompaniment.

Future of Gelliwastad Road Building
From the URC Properties Officer
The URC will transfer Gelliwastad Road to the PCW (this will be an asset transfer, so no money will change hands). In order to allow the PCW to use the building while the legal process happens an access agreement will be in put in place by which the PCW will take on responsibility for the utilities, the weekly inspection, and cleaning and maintenance.
From Presbytery
Discussions are on-going with prospective patterns to turn the Gelliwastad Road building into a hub for children with additional learning needs (ALN) and their families.
In addition, a small local group are exploring the possibilities of setting up youth work and a Sunday School which will be multilingual (English, Welsh, BSL) and ALN friendly.
URC Appeal for Ukraine
The URC has launched an appeal in support of Ukrainian refugees and Internally Displaced Persons located to the west of Ukraine in Transcarpathia. Communities belonging to the Reformed Church in Transcarpathia supported our antecedent Reformed churches that now make up the United Reformed Church after the 2nd World War. It was family looking after family. Now it is our turn to help. You can donate on line at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-our-church-partners-in-ukraine/
Foodbank Appeal
We have supported the Pontypridd Foodbank many years. In December 2022 they moved to new premises in Nile Street.
They have recently begun a programme of works to improve and upgrade the building so that it is greener and cleaner, and is used in the best way possible to meet the needs of our clients and the community. The cost will be around £240,000. They have some funding from RCT Council, and are applying for grant funding from a number of different sources, including the Trussell Network.
They are appealing to their supporters for one-off donations to their building fund.
If you can help us in any way, no matter how large or small, they would be extremely grateful.
- Donate in cash or cheque, please put your donation in an envelope and mark it PROJECT. And place in the box. Cheques made payable to Pontypridd Foodbank
