12th May 2024

It’s the second Sunday of the Month when we usually have our monthly Zoom service, but today marks the start of Christian Aid Week, which we as a church have always supported, so as we did last year, we are not having a zoom service and we hope that those who would normally join us from far away are able to join the live stream or watch later on YouTube.

Today we are delighted to welcome Rebecca Elliot of Christian Aid Cymru, who is leading our service with help from Rev Ray Vincent. We will learn how in Burundi, with our support, families are changing their own futures. So please pick up an envelope and give as you are able to help these people, please fill in the attached slip if you wish to gift aid your donation.

Our service today will be followed by tea/coffee and cakes. All money raised will be donated to Christian Aid. There will be a good selection of cakes available including many homemade cakes. Why not purchase some to take home?

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We hold of Alison, Steve and the family, as they say their final goodbye to Alison’s Mum, Diana Hayns, on Monday 13th May 10.30am at Glyntaf, The Service will be live streamed and also available later.    To watch follow the link.                                                                                https://watch.obitus.com.     Username       budo8620         Password 707668                                                                                            Donations in lieu of flowers to Dementia UK, 7th Floor, One Aldgate, London EC3N 1RE
  • We heard last Sunday that Sonia’s sister Hazel was in hospital having had a stroke, we sadly report that Hazel passed away on Wednesday. We keep Sonia and her sister’s family in our prayers at this time.
  • It’s exam time! We think of those connected to our fellowship who have family members who will be swotting and possibly panicking in the coming weeks.
  • Brian, (and Marcia) are grateful for the concern being shown to them. Brian is eating well and is quite chatty, unfortunately there is currently Covid on the ward, so extra precautions have to be taken!
  • We think of those of our fellowship who are finding life a challenge or are waiting for appointments

Birthdays

We are aware of four birthdays being celebrated this week:    Gwynedd Deville and Elsie Bond both Wednesday 15th (Elsie will be 11!), Del Doyle on Thursday 16th and Hywel Jones on Friday 17th.

We hope you are all able to celebrate with family and friends.

Congratulations!

Last Thursday Kath and Lynda attended PCW Association in the East meeting where they were presented with certificates to celebrate 40 years as ordained Elders commissioned by the Association in the East.

What an achievement!!

Dates for your Diary

PCW National Week of Prayer Monday May 20th – Sunday 26th May

As Rev Owen Griffiths mentioned last week.            At the heart of the Week of Prayer will be two National Prayer Meetings at 7pm-8pm on Monday 20th and 7pm on Thursday 23rd May. On the Monday, we will be able to gather in designated centres around Wales, our nearest centre is Parcarts (the former Park PCW Church in Treforest) The Thursday prayer meeting will be conducted entirely on Zoom and so everyone will be able to join from anywhere if they can access Wi-Fi.

Prayer is a constant of church life, but the Week of Prayer will be a time when, as an entire denomination, we can bow our heads and raise our voices as one, seven days when we will unite in our concerns and our burdens for the future of our land and of this world. And, considering the spiritual state of our nation and the political tensions of our world, the need for us to unite in prayer has rarely been more urgent.

Celebration Service Saturday 20th July

As we prepare to move to Castle Square the Worship Group and Elders have started to plan a Celebration Service to mark the extraordinary journey of St David’s Uniting Church. Details to follow, if you would like to be involved in any way at all, please let your Elder know. Note the date in your diaries now

Handmade cards

As usual a great selection of handmade cards will be on sale in the hall following the service with all proceeds going to Church Funds, If you would like a handmade card for a special occasion, contact Colleen

A reminder that rather than bring items for the Foodbank at a Church meeting in 2023 it was agreed that monetary donations to the Foodbank could be placed in a collection box. The box is on the table at the back of the church.
