11th May 2025

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, at the start of Christian Aid Week 2025

As is our tradition our service will focus on the work of Christian Aid.

This year we are privileged that our service is being led by Jenny Weaver from Christian Aid Cymru. Jenny joined us in December last year when we were carol singing at Sainsburys.

This year Christian Aid Week will be celebrating 80 years since their work began. They also have the 70K in May Challenge, which we will possibly hear more about.

Envelopes are available, please fill in the attached form if you wish to gift aid your donation.

We remind you that following the service, home-made cakes will be available to purchase, so if you can bake, please do, if you don’t then come prepared  and you can then have some delicious home-made cakes for your afternoon tea. All the proceeds  will be donated to Christian Aid. A huge thanks in advance to all who will take up the challenge to bake.

All are welcome to join us in the hall following the service when tea and coffee will be served  and Handmade Cards will  be available to purchase.

Pastoral Concerns

We can only include names when permission has been given.

  • We are pleased to say that Ann, who is in Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda is improving, all be it slowly.
  • We continue to hold Beti and Marlene in our prayers along with those who support them.
  • The Elders who are meeting on Sunday May 18th, and will be planning for Elders’ elections and the church AGM which will be on Monday 30th June at 7pm.
  • We think of those who will be, or have recently needed the services of the dentist.
  • We are sorry to hear that Jean is still waiting to be discharged from hospital.
  • We remember those for whom news has not been good, particularly those who are grieving or missing loved ones as anniversaries approach
  • We remember those of our fellowship who are unable to remember us, and pray for their well-being.
  • We rejoice with our friends in the Catholic Church on the election of Pope Leo XIV
  • As we come to the end of VE Day Commemorations, we think of those who have reason to be sad.

Sharing Good News

Stephanie is very pleased that a recent letter from the hospital says ‘the problem is completely resolved, which is reassuring news’. We rejoice with her and Alan!

I am delighted to have received an invitation to join my friend in Spain for a week, if you are reading this on Sunday I am already there! When I return, I will have just 5 days before I go into hospital for my operation.  The only down side is I will not be able to drive for six weeks.         Marcia

Newsletters for the next 8 weeks!

As Marcia has taken an unexpected holiday, there was no time to arrange for someone to do the newsletter for next week (18th May).

The next newsletter will hopefully be 25th. We will also need a volunteer to print 20 copies for distribution until Marcia is mobile again.

Birthdays for the next 2 weeks

There are six people we know of with birthdays between today and May 24th:

Gwynedd Deville and Elsie Bond (12) on Thursday 15th, Del Doyle on Friday 16th, Hywel Jones on Saturday 17th, Madeleine Howells on Monday 19th and Millie Bond on Tuesday 20th.

We hope you all have an enjoyable day and are all able to celebrate with family and friends.

Thought for the Week

Without hope we are restricted to the legacy of the past and the circumstances of the present.
But the Spirit brings God’s future into our present.
Therefore, we do not need to make things happen…. To force things.
Hope places God at the centre of our life and action
as we look for his kingdom and for his Spirit to guide and empower us.
