10th November 2024

We welcome everyone to our Remembrance Service, whether you are in the sanctuary, in your homes or will watch later on YouTube.

During the service the Last Post will be played and we will observe two minutes silence for all who have died in two world wars, and in many other conflicts around the world in between and since.

This is our monthly ZOOM service and we are very pleased that the Director of Mission for the Baptist Union of Wales, Rev Simeon Baker, has accepted our invitation to lead our service from the comfort of his home.

Simeon was with us a year ago when he led our service in person in Gelliwastad Road; we look forward to what he will share with us on screen.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:

  • Jayne Bright would appreciate everyone’s prayers as she is going through a difficult time. She had a biopsy on Friday and is very concerned about what the results may be.
  • We continue to hold Sue Skym in our prayers following the death of her brother Bob, so soon after her son Matthew.
  • Viviane, although not driving yet, is getting out and about. We wish you well, but take it easy!
  • Margaret Wicks is getting better, and is hoping to get out, but is building her strength up first.
  • There are many people who are unable to get out, a phone call or visit would remind them that they are not forgotten!

Birthdays.

St David’s Guild

Who would have thought that so many diverse activities could be enjoyed by so many groups at Daerwynno Outdoor Pursuits Centre! We were shown stunning pictures of children, teenagers and young adults being introduced to canoeing, climbing and orienteering…and these were just a few of the activities on offer. Team building and liaising with others lie at the heart of the activities. We sampled team building in our group and acquitted ourselves very well (so said our speakers Jill and Wynford)…..even though we were all new to manoeuvring ropes and claw grabs! We have photographic proof.

This Wednesday Stephen Webber is going to introduce to us the untold story of astronomy.

Challenge, Choice and Change Exhibition

An exhibition of artwork by Rev Stephen Best in the church, which is part of us getting to know the community. We will be serving tea and coffee on both days. If you are able to serve tea/coffee at the event contact Pam or Lynda.

We also need people to help deliver flyers in Treforest to advertise the event: please meet at the church 10am on Monday. If you need a lift, speak to Maralyn. Alternatively, if Monday morning is not suitable for you there are some bundles for streets available today. Please volunteer. It’s a good way to get your daily exercise!!

A Date for your Diary

Sunday November 17th

There will be a Church Meeting after the service. If you are unable to attend, please sign the Apologies Sheet. The minutes of the last meeting are on the table at the back of the church.

Items on the agenda will include Advent and Christmas Services, Christmas Charities and Future Ministry.

Handmade cards

Although we are not serving coffee today Handmade cards are still available and Colleen is taking orders for personalised Christmas Cards, so get your orders in soon. All proceeds raised from the sale of the cards is given to the Church.

With just over 6 weeks to Christmas and thoughts of Christmas dinners, please, when you are shopping this week remember those who will struggle to put food on the table and put a donation in the foodbank box.

you have to work with your enemy.
