St David’s Uniting Church Monthly Magazine – October 2025

September 28, 2025 / Catherine Naamani / News

What happened in September

Image of five people standing in front of a pipe organ. Our minister, Clare is standing in the centre and has a white stole around her shoulders. On a day filled with joy and thanksgiving, we celebrated the ordination of Revd Clare Nutbrown-Hughes as a Minister of Word and Sacraments, and her induction to the Valleys Pastorate. This pastorate brings together four churches: Hope & Market Square in Merthyr Tydfil, Van Road in Caerphilly, St David’s Uniting in Treforest, and Bethany in Hengoed.

The service marked the beginning of a new chapter, not only for Clare but also for the congregations she now serves. Surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues in ministry, the service was a reminder of the covenant between ministers and congregations: to journey together in faith, mission, and service to the wider community.

Among those present for this significant occasion were:

  • Revd Dr Graham Adams (Northern College)
  • Revd David Salsbury (Moderator of the United Reformed Church in Wales)
  • Revd Clare Nutbrown-Hughes
  • Megan Price (Synod Clerk, URC Wales)
  • Revd Dr Noel Irwin (Northern College)

As Clare begins her ministry within the Valleys Pastorate, we pray for wisdom, joy, and strength in all that lies ahead.

We also give thanks for the faithful witness of these congregations and look forward with anticipation to the ways God’s Spirit will continue to move among them.
