Focus on Palestine

St David’s Uniting has, for many years, supported the quest for a just and lasting peace in Palestine and the Middle East and over the past few weeks, this has become a focus for us as a church as we watch in horror, as the disaster continues to unfold. There are times when we have felt powerless to do anything at all in response and yet in the past few weeks, our focus has turned very much to reflecting on our actions. Our service on 17th August, led by our Justice & Peace and Worship groups was based on the excellent resources developed by Christian Aid aimed at raising awareness of the situation there. A number of people commented on how much they learnt. We raised £450 + Gift Aid for Medical Aid for Palestinians and supported the Walk for Peace on 7th September. This week, we are encouraged to support the visit of a group of young Palestinians to Wales. Our actions may seem small and sometimes insignificant, but last week, the UK government recognised Palestine as a State, a result undoubtedly in no small part, of the very many apparently small actions that we and others have carried out over the past months and years. So, as we continue to pray for and act for a long-lasting peace in the Middle East, let’s remember that even the smallest actions can and do make a difference.
