What happened in December:
Visit from A Rocha UK – On 23rd November, our service was led by Delyth Higgins from A Rocha UK. It was a thought-provoking and important service for us to think about how we can become more environmentally aware as we work towards becoming an eco-church. We decided to set up a group to work on this important aspect of church life. A reminder that if you’re interested in being involved, please get in touch with Liz, or your elder.
Update from the Church Meeting held on Sunday 30 November 2025:
- Volunteers are needed to be the new Treasurer and to join the Echo Church Group.
- Following on from the discussion at the church meeting about insurance and safeguarding concerning lifts to church Clare took the question to Judy Harris at Synod and got the following information:
- If individuals pick up one or two friends on the way to church that is just friends looking after each other and insurance is not impacted. However, if people are rota-ed to go around on a certain date and pick up six people whom they might not particularly know and take them to church then that is likely to require insurance for business use.
- A DBS check or safeguarding training is not required for people bringing non-vulnerable friends to church. However, if a person being picked up is a vulnerable adult, then there must be two people in the car with that vulnerable adult – in part to ensure that the driver is not distracted should the vulnerable person become distressed and to keep everyone safe and protected. Safeguarding training is advised in this instance.
For our service on 7th December we were invited to wear red in support of the Red Line for Gaza Campaign which is supported by over 20 different organisations who are working in partnership to bring an end to the suffering in Gaza. They include Christian Aid, Oxfam, Cafod, & Action Aid. We held a continuous red ribbon. For two years, civilians in Gaza have been bombed, starved, and denied safety, Collective punishment. Indiscriminate attacks. Blocked Aid. These are war crimes. International law has been broken – again and again. Over 20,000 children were killed (taken from redlineforgaxa.eaction.org.uk)
On Monday 15th December we were joined by Clare and 4 friends from churches in Caerphilly as we gathered to sing carols and bring festive joy to the shoppers at Sainsbury’s. £153.77 was raised that evening for the work of Christian Aid.
