St David’s Uniting Church Monthly Magazine – April 2026

March 28, 2026 / Alison Jones / News

Pastoral Matters and News

  • We were all saddened to hear of the death of our dear friend, Hilary Goodfellow on Thursday, March 5th. Hilary had not enjoyed good health in her latter years but was always interested in all news and activities in St David’s. She frequently mentioned how she would have loved attending a service in our new home in Treforest. Latterly she was able to join our Zoom services which she enjoyed, particularly those with Christ Well.                                                                                                                                                              We remember her as a loyal member of our church, the Wednesday night fellowship at St. David’s Presbyterian Church and a stalwart of Guild there and in St. David’s Uniting Church. When Hilary enjoyed good health, she could always be found working happily in the kitchen.   Hillary’s funeral will take place on Monday 30 March at Glyntaff Crematorium followed by a reception at the Heritage Park Hotel. All are welcome to attend.

She remains in our thoughts with great love and affection and throughout the years, she was a joy to visit. She always appreciated                  visits from “the girls in church!” We remember her family in our prayers.

  • We think of Anne Hill who had a fall at home on Friday 20 March. She eventually went into hospital the next morning when it was discovered that she had fractured her hip. She was operated on last Sunday (22 March). We keep her in our thoughts.
  • Flowers Fund – In March 2024 as part of our quest to be an eco-church the decision was made to no longer display flowers in church.  Individuals used to pay for the flowers to commemorate special occasions. However, we do still deliver flowers (or Chocolates) to people who need cheering up! Our ‘Flower Fund’ is currently running low, if you would like to contribute to the fund Marilyn Edwards will be pleased to accept your donation.
  • From Margaret: I’ve had a message of thanks from Sophie Lemon (Community Partnerships Manager for South Wales and SW England) for the generous gift of £365.90 which was collected for Leprosy Mission earlier this year. Many thanks to all in St David’s for their wonderful support for Leprosy Mission over the years. It is truly appreciated.
  • From Pam: Pam thanks all her church friends for their best wishes, cards, flowers and practical help, after her fall. The shoulder is ‘on the mend’ and we’re all grateful to Marilyn, Hywel and John Henson for taking on extra organ duties.”  Many thanks.
  • From Gwyneth: I just want to say a big thank you to all who sent me birthday cards. The kind words & birthday wishes made my day.
  • From Susan Thomas: Just to say thank you to all the congregation for their prayers, cards and best wishes after my operation. I hope everybody has a Happy, Peaceful Easter, I intend to rejoin you all in person soon.

  • Huge Congratulations to our minister, Clare Nutbrown-Hughes, for her tremendous achievement having just graduated from Durham University with a 1st in Theology Mission and Ministry.  Very well done Clare!
