Rhyl to Cardiff Walk – NHS @70 Part 2

Our Intrepid Duo  –

Phil and Bethan             

continue their trek joined by

‘SPI’ and his dog!

~ Days 4  to 7

 

 

 

 

Wednesday 11th   –   Day 4  – Montgomery – Presteigne  

Visiting Knighton Community Hospital, late afternoon to thank the amazing staff there.

 

 

Then on to meet the good people of

Presteigne Baptist Church

 

Bethan, Phil  and SPI, (Minister of the URC Valleys Pastorate) have reached Presteigne!

 

Thank you! for your care and hospitality!

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday 12th  – Day 5 – Presteigne – Glasbury -27 Miles

After a hearty breakfast at Presteigne Baptist  the trio set off!

 

           

 

 

No visits were planned for today…….the trio just enjoyed the beauty of the country side

as made their way to Hay on Wye and on to Glasbury .

 

They were met by their hosts for the night in Glasbury Village.

 

 

Bethan, Phil and SPI are raising a glass with their hosts in Glasbury!

They’ve walked 26 miles today so couldn’t be more deserving!

 

Friday 13th – Day 6 – Glasbury – Merthyr 22 – Miles

Brecon War Memorial Hospital visit at 9.30am –

This morning our team met with staff at Brecon War Memorial Hospital to thank them for their hard work!

       

Thankyou Elaine and Emma for having us! They’re also very excited to be on S4C Heno at 7pm .

 

After the filmimg and saying fare well they set off again…….

                  

Back on the trail, walkling to Torpantau where they take a well earned ride to Merthyr!

 

                 

Extra special thanks to Brecon Mountain Railway for their support and complimentary tickets for the intrepid trio!

 

Then on to Prince Charles Hospital for a 6.30pm appointment with Carolyn Castle and others

            

Our host for the night was SPI!  One of his churches is in Merthyr!

 

Saturday 14th  Day 7: Tredegar – Pontypridd – 23 Miles

Transport to Bevan Memorial Stones to start the final leg at 8.30am

        

Bethan, Phil and SPI were joined on the walk by Ben, Simon, Deborah and Michael.

So the group was increased to 7!

The next stop would be lunch at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Village, where others had promised to join them!

 

At Merthyr they were joined by

Marlene, Liz, Iestyn, Isobel and Marcia – members of St David’s Uniting Church

plus Sian and Gwennan –  staff from Glantaf School

for the last leg to Pontypridd.

 

There were now 14 walkers heading towards Pontypridd!

SPI left the group  to catch the train at Merthyr Vale

Marcia left at Quakers Yard to get a lift home!

Liz, Iestyn and Isobel  caught the train at Abercynon

………………….leaving nine !

Next Stop St David’s Uniting Church and the Celebration Concert with Tredegar Town Band

 

Phil and Bethan were welcomed with a fanfare and a standing ovation!!!

 

          

The Deputy Mayor of RCT, Cllr Linda De Vet

and one of the soloists with Beverley, the

compere for the evening, Bethan & Phil who

had had time to change!

Mick Antoniw AM was also a guest!

Thankyou so much for joining us!

 

More to come as Bethan, Phil and SPI complete the walk and deliver the Thank You cards to the Senedd
