3rd Aug 2025

Welcome everyone to our services today! If you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time, we hope you will feel the warmth of our welcome and return again soon.

Ten years ago, our morning service took the form of a ‘Summer Songs of Praise’, when ‘songs’ chosen by members of the congregation were sung. The person who led that service is responsible for today’s service but it will be completely different!  Today Iestyn will, as usual, take inspiration from the lectionary, we can be sure that Iestyn will make us see familiar readings in a new way.

Fair-traded refreshments will be served in the hall following the service and a selection of handmade cards will also available. Large cards are £2 and small are £1.50. We invite you to join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Pastoral Matters

We only include names when permission has been given.

  • We think of those who are housebound and rely on visits from many different care workers, which can be unsettling. We give thanks for them.
  • We congratulate those of our fellowship who have studied hard and achieved excellent results, culminating in a 2:1
  • We are aware that there are people connected to our fellowship who have ongoing issues to cope with, which need a lot of patience. We keep them in our thoughts.

The use of Foodbanks has risen by 50% in 5years. 2.9million emergency food parcels were provided across the UK between April 2024 and March 2025, that is the equivalent to one parcel every 11 seconds. We have a box for monetary donations, please give if you can.

A Date for your Diaries

The Justice and Peace group has arranged a visit from our Member of Parliament, Alex Davies Jones, to the church at 6 pm on Thursday, September 11th

Please make every effort to come along. It is important that we meet with our elected politicians so that they know of our concerns and give them the opportunity to answer our questions face to face , in an environment which is courteous and friendly where people feel free to debate. I’m sure that as congregation many of us have great anxieties about much that is happening at home and abroad both now and in the future. This is our opportunity to speak out.

If you have any specific questions you’d like asked, please give them to Pam.

During refugee week this year St David’s Uniting Church in Treforest hosted a ‘Bring & Share’ lunch in collaboration with Rhondda-Cynon-Taff council, Migrant Help, Valleys Ethnic Minority Support and DPIA (Displaced People in Action).

It was wonderful to see so many faces, new and known, from all over the world coming together over a shared meal with church members and friends from the local community. It is an exciting time, too, for the church as we embark on our new journey since moving to Treforest in September.

St David’s has a long tradition of supporting refugees and asylum seekers both practically and financially. We offer English language support and have developed friendships with families from Syria, Sudan, Afghanistan and more.

Our relationship with DPIA stretches back to 2004 when we started learning about the very many difficulties facing asylum seekers and refugees on arrival to Wales. As a consequence, we set up a fund and now donate annually to DPIA. In 2006 they set up the ‘SDUC Education and Wellbeing Fund’. These additional funds enable DPIA to provide practical support to those in need for things like bus and train tickets to lessons and examinations, exam fees, and even cleaning products for someone working as a cleaner. We regularly receive visits from DPIA and know that while the amounts seem relatively small, they make a huge difference in breaking down barriers faced by refugees and asylum seekers where no other funding option is available.

If you think your church might be willing to support DPIA in a similar way, more information is available on their website https://www.dpia.org.uk/projects/st-davids-uniting-church-fund/ or by e-mailing DPIA direct – [email protected]
