7th May 2023

We extend a warm welcome to everyone who joins us for worship today, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time.

The service today was to have been led by Rev Vaughan Rees, but he was unable to fulfil his engagement.

We are grateful to Michael Howells who volunteered to stand in for him, and look forward to what he has to share with us.

We recognise the importance of getting to know one another so after our service we invite you to join us for a ‘cuppa’ in the hall where you will have a chance to chat and catch up with friends

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers:

  • Many will have heard that sadly David Jones passed away peacefully early on Sunday 30th.  David has been a part of our fellowship since he and Ann moved to Wales in October 2013. Although as the father-in-law of our Minister at that time he and his late wife were frequent visitors. We think of his daughter Sue and Simon, Ben, Bethan and Ianto, along with Sue’s sister Linda, Paul and David.

David will be missed by many in our congregation, especially the older men and rugby supporters.

  • This week we say farewell to two members of our congregation, Mary Robins and Loreen Davies.

Image of Mary RobinsMary’s funeral, which will be led by Rev Gethin Rhys, will take place at Glyntaf Crematorium at 2.15pm ,Wednesday, 10th May. We continue to keep Mary’s daughter Helen and grandsons Dylan and Owen and all family members along with John and others who have been a part of Mary’s life for so long, in our prayers as they gather to say ‘Goodbye’.

Image of Loreen DaviesWe will join Loreen’s son’s, Greg and Adrian and their families on Friday for her Funeral which will be held in Loreen’s Church, St David’s Uniting at 1pm on Friday 12th May. The service will be led by Rev Simon Walkling, followed by interment at Glyntaf Cemetery at 2pm.   We continue to keep Loreen’s son’s, in our prayers as they prepare to say their final goodbye to their Mam.

  • We have missed Sheila from our services recently as she had an injury to her leg, all is now well and we look forward to seeing her in Church and Guild.

  • There are several people either going for or waiting for the results of scans etc, we hope the all goes well and that the wait is not prolonged.

Birthdays…..

There are four people we know of who are celebrating their birthday’s this week: ~

Graham Healy on Monday 8th May  ~  Steve Jones and Ben Walkling both on Tuesday 9th May  ~  and a guy known as Phil Wall on Thursday 11th May, Phil may have moved on but he isn’t forgotten!

However you choose to celebrate guys we hope you have a great day.

Homemade cards

The usual excellent selection of Cards will be available in the hall after the service: but we remind you that Colleen is unable to accept any orders until June.

A message from Colleen: ‘Thank you to all who support the church by buying my handmade cards. We raised £570 last year. All monies raised by the sale of these cards go towards church funds so thank you.’

The Church Treasurer is also very grateful to all who purchase the cards and says a massive ‘thankyou’ to Colleen for sharing her considerable talents in this way.

Thought for the week

“It is much more valuable to look for the strength in others
You can gain nothing by criticizing their imperfections.”
