6th October 2024

We welcome everyone to our service today, whether you are here in person or watching remotely. If you are new to our fellowship you are especially welcome.

Our Service today is being led by Rev Ray Vincent, who has accepted our invitation, as Rev Aled Edwards, who was to have been here is taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon. We hope he completes it safely!

Rays theme for the service is The Kingdom of Prayer; we look foward to what he has to share with us.

Fairtrade coffee and tea will be served after this service and all are welcome to join in this time of informal fellowship, when handmade cards will be on sale.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week. Please pray for:

  • Those with family in Lebanon and Beirut, especially Bilal and Catherine.
  • Anne, as she cares for Graham, who has spent a few days in hospital, and is now back home
  • Jane Jones whose 30yr old great nephew has died in tragic circumstances, leaving a wife and four children.
  • Marilyn Young, her recent tests have all been OK, which is good news.
  • Pam, her operation went well and she did not have to stay in overnight, her family are looking after her.
  • Unfortunately Viviane’s operation had to be postponed, she hopes to have another date soon.
  • Elsie has received news, the medication is working and the consultants don’t want to see her until next year, so, just her steroid injection to have now.
  • Rev David Powell as he is ordained and inducted as an accredited Baptist Minister in the Baptist Union of Great Britain, at High Street Baptist Church, Merthyr Tydfil. The service is on Thursday at 7pm

Birthdays.

There are three people we know of who have birthdays this week:

Dates for your Diary

Wednesday October 9th

Last week we got the feel of our new venue for Guild Meetings. Please note that we have access from 1.45 and we need to arrive early to start the meeting at 2pm; we have to vacate the room by 3.45pm. The room on the second floor, there is a lift which will accommodate 5 people, but it is very slow.

This week Robert will regale us with Films and Music, hopefully technology will be OK!

Sunday October 13th marks the start of Prisons Week – a time when faith communities are invited to pray for the needs of all those affected by prisons: prisoners and their families, victims of crime and their communities, those working in the criminal justice system and the many people who are involved in caring for those affected by crime on the inside and outside of our prisons. Our zoom service for the Sunday will be led by Phil, who hopes to give us more insight into the lives of children who have been incarcerated for their offences. There will be a dedicated ‘Question and response’ part of the service, so do have a think whether there are any questions that you’d like to ask Phil about his workplace or ministry.

The will be our first Zoom service to be streamed from the sanctuary in Treforest, hopefully all will go well!

Thanks…

….from Pam for the cards, visits, phone calls and good wishes, they have been much appreciated.

A Message …

….from Kath….’I have changed my phone number…..I have it written down for anyone who wants it!

News from the Elders Meeting.

The Elders’ list has now been finalised; a copy is on the wall in the hall.

Having had a much-needed break from packing and unpacking boxes and moving furniture we are now making arrangements to sort out the hall and hang pictures and banners.

It was agreed to ask for a meeting with a representative from Baptist, PCW and URC to discuss the way forward for calling a new minister

Stephen Best has offered to stage an art exhibition in the church as part of us getting to know the community. It will take place on 15th and 16th November 2024 10.30am to 4pm. Flyers will be printed; help will be needed nearer the time to deliver them.

If you missed the opportunity to donate to our Harvest Appeal envelopes are still available.

BUT the Foodbank collecting box is always on the table for monetary donations. If you prefer to donate food most supermarkets have boxes for Pontypridd Foodbank.

Thought for the week

Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement.      Henry Ford 1863-1947
