3rd September 2023

We say ‘Hello’ to everyone who is reading this newsletter – we have enjoyed the summer break and we look forward to sharing news with you as we journey together in the coming months and prepare to move to our new ‘home’.

If you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time, we hope you will feel the warmth of our welcome and return again soon.

Today we are pleased to welcome Rev Mark Fairweather-Tall who is leading our service, Mark is Regional Minister and Team Leader for South Wales Baptist Association, and this is his first visit to St David’s. We look forward to time of rich blessing, but also of challenge, as he leads us.

Tea and coffee will be served in the hall following the service, and homemade cards will be on sale. Please join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We think of Sonia whose sister, Hazel has been rushed into hospital and is on High Dependancy Unit in Llandough, also her cousin who fell from the roof is not in a good state, he has had a foot amputated and has other injuries. Added to that a great-great niece who was this week is not well.
  • We are very pleased to say that Hilary is feeling much better, she just wishes she could have more strength in her arms!
  • Stephanie has been referred to the pain clinic by her spinal specialist. We hope that it will be a help!
  • Jayne Bright has seen her surgeon who has advised her to try and walk more. The problem she has is with the lower back. We hope that she will be able to cope with some gentle exercise.
  • Ray’s friend, John Peterkin’s nephew Jack – an update: He is slowly recovering but still in intensive c He has severe brain damage and it is still not known how this will affect his life. His family are very grateful for our prayers.
  • We think of the Al Numerie family as they grieve for Sobhi’s brother who has passed away in Syria.
  • Some of our friends have suffered with chest infections during August, but are now improving.
  • Anne Coles has finally had her appointment and the injection she received seems to have worked after two weeks. We hope it lasts.
  • We remember Renda who has heard that a 21yr old cousin has died of an illness while in Egypt. She is also concerned for the safety of her family due to the conflict in Sudan.

Thanks

Thanks for the cards, phone calls and visits I received on the week of my birthday; I spent my actual birthday with my family, but the visits during the week made it a memorable occasion which I thoroughly enjoyed. God bless you all.    Hilary

Thanks to everyone for all my Birthday cards, I had a lovely day….even though I am now officially a pensioner!   Colleen

Birthdays…..

There is just one birthday that we are aware of this week:  Marlene Rayner on Saturday 9th September – Enjoy ‘YOUR’ day Marlene.

Good News

We rejoice with Pat and John Howell on the birth of their great granddaughter, Eliza who was born on August 14th. Their grandson Sam is the proud father.

Marlene’s granddaughter Elinor has achieved a 2 1 in her Graduation from Bristol University, and is now a qualified paramedic. She has also passed her HGV test to drive an ambulance and will be starting in Exeter in September. Marlene is super proud of her.

Dorothy’s granddaughter, Laura was awarded Gold at the Royal Welsh Show for her Lemon and Raspberry Ice Cream and was also awarded Supreme Champion overall.

We share Robert’s joy that his great niece Emily begins her new role as a trainee broadcast journalist with ITN one of only two positions in the whole of Wales. It was a very long and challenging selection process.
