31st Aug 2025

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time

As you read this, we are able to say that Clare Nutbrown-Hughes has been ordained and inducted as the minister of the Valleys Pastorate, which includes Van Road URC Caerphilly, Hope and Market Square United Church Merthyr Tydfil, Bethany URC Ystrad Mynach and ourselves. We look forward to her ministry among us.

Today, Stephen Webber is leading our service; Stephen last led our worship as we were preparing to move and continue our journey in a new area. His message to us that day encouraged us as we were facing new challenges. We pray that today we will experience the challenge of his word to us as we go forward with Clare as our Minister.

Fair-traded tea and coffee will be served in the hall following the service, and handmade cards will be on sale. Please join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Pastoral Matters

We only include names when permission has been given.

  • Many will have heard that Cyril Davies passed away on Tuesday 26 August at the age of 97. Cyril has been a faithful member of our congregation for many years, having been a member of Carmel Baptist, one of our Parent Churches. Cyril was a character with a strong faith and firm views. He worshipped with us until poor health prevented him, but he still kept in touch as several people phoned him or visited. We think of his family, especially his grandsons, Lloyd, Brenig and Tomos who were members of Junior Church. Funeral details will follow.
  • We think of all those who are unable to worship with us in person and also do not have the technology to join our services online. They have to rely on the few services that are offered on TV or Radio. These folk really appreciate our newsletters and also phone calls when they can catch up with all the news!

Birthdays

There is just one birthday that we are aware of in our fellowship this week and that is Annette Powell; Annette’ birthday is on Monday 2nd September. Enjoy ‘YOUR’ date Annette.

A Date for your Diary

This is your opportunity to have your voice heard!

On Thursday September 11th at 6 pm our local Member of Parliament, Alex Davies Jones has accepted the invitation of the Justice and Peace group to meet with us to hear our views and opinions on local and global matters. Please, please use this opportunity to air views and ask pertinent questions. In our increasingly polarised society, it is important to be able to discuss topics rationally and express differing views respectfully. When you come to church on Sunday you will be given a slip of paper on which we ask you to write either the topic which concerns you most or a question for Alex Davies Jones. These will be collected after the service as you leave.
