27th October 2024

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time

We are delighted to welcome Rev Owen Griffiths, Minister for South East Wales Presbytery;  Owen was with us a couple of weeks ago, for the ordination of our new Elders. Today he will be leading our worship which will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. All are welcome to share in the bread and wine with us.

We invite you to stay and chat following the service when handmade cards will be on sale in the hall.

St David’s Guild

Wednesday October 23rd Guild

The talk given by Dr Leeworthy on Elaine Morgan last Wednesday was excellent.

Elaine, born in Hopkinstown, came from a mining family. She was an only child and was encouraged by her family to pursue her education. She excelled in the grammar school at both science and the arts but was discouraged in taking science as girls were expected to pursue the arts. She won an exhibition to Lady Margaret Hall Oxford. In her married life she became a very well-known screen writer for the BBC while bringing up her children. When unveiling her statue at Mountain Ash, her son, Gareth, said “Elaine has been called a campaigner for women’s equality, but secretly I think she believed in women’s superiority “.

We are looking forward very much to this week’s talk from Stephen  Broom, who is Margaret Morris’s brother. Stephen has had a stellar musical  career  and ended his working life with twenty years as principal viola at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. We will be meeting in the lower room this week.

Thought for the Week

The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings,

by changing the inner attitudes of their minds can change the outer aspects of their lives.

William James (1842-1910)
