27th November 2022

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today as we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent.

We will also be supporting Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign which our Peace and Justice group have planned. We will be writing to the following groups and individuals:  People with Albinism in Malawi     Migrant Workers in Qatar      Shahnewaz Chowdhury an environmental activist from Bangladesh who is facing a jail sentence for posting on Facebook

If you’d like to find out more, go to the Amnesty website https://www.amnesty.org/en/

We will also share the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during the service.

Tea and coffee will be served in the hall following the morning service, and the hand-made Christmas cards will be on sale, please join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.

  • We pray for David Jones and Elsie Bennett, as they go into hospital this week for their operations, and their families in their concern for them.
  • Sue Skym has Covid and her granddaughter has been in hospital for an emergency operation but is now back home and doing well. They are just glad to have found out what the problem was as she hasn’t been well for a few weeks.
  • We think of members of our fellowship who are coping with life-affecting illnesses and we hope that medication or possibly injections may help to ease their pain.

As we start a new Church Year, we will share dates each week from the Public Issues Calendar to include in our prayers.

  • 25 Nov–10 Dec 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence
  • 1 Dec – World Aids Day

Birthdays

Just one birthday this week! Marcia will be celebrating on Friday 2nd December (where did that year go? I’m sure I’ll have a good time.)

Good News

Gwyneth’s granddaughter, Imogen has finally had her tonsils removed, and is recovering well!

Anne Coles is looking forward to Mel coming home from Dubai for a month, so Anne will be able to share Christmas with all her family.

We celebrate with Margaret and Chris on their granddaughter, Ciara’s graduation which took place in Bristol Cathedral last Monday. She was awarded BSc with honours in Paediatric Nursing.

Last week a small group braved the weather and spent a pleasant afternoon reminiscing about the Christmas’s of their childhood, much to the amusement of the youngest person present!

This week we will have the pleasure of Robert’s company, his topic is ‘Everything you want to know about carols but were afraid to ask!!’           All are welcome to join us in the Victoria room at 2pm

Next Sunday ~ Gift Sunday

As agreed at the Church meeting, our monetary gifts will be for Llamau, which supports homeless young people, and Christian Aid, to help fight global poverty – Gift Envelopes are on the table, if you gift aid, please put your name on the back.

We will also be accepting gifts for Pobl (formerly Adref Homeless) and Homestart who help children and teenagers! Please don’t wrap the gifts, if you wish they can be put in a gift bag. We also ask that gifts are in separate bags.

Church Website

Our website has been updated!  It’s worth taking a look, there are photos from Phil’s farewell weekend.

The most recent recorded service is accessible on the front page. Sometimes we encounter problems when uploading videos to the website, we can only apologise when this happens!

It is now possible to check ‘What’s On’ by clicking on the tab and checking the calendar. We’ll do our best to keep it up to date.

Thought for the Week

“It means a great deal to those who are oppressed to know that they are not alone.

Never let anyone tell you that what you are doing is insignificant.”

Desmond Tutu
