27th July 2025

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, If you are a visitor, or worshipping with us for the first time, we hope that you will leave the service feeling refreshed in mind and spirit.

We give a special welcome to Revd. Aled Edwards, (you may have heard him last month on the BBC Wales programme ‘Celebration’) who is leading our service today which will include the celebration of the Lords Supper. All are invited to share the bread and wine with us.

We currently do not serve tea and coffee on the fourth Sunday so if anyone wishes to purchase Colleen’s handmade cards, please speak to Anne.

Pastoral Matters

We only include names when permission has been given.

  • George’s hospital appointment was OK and he and Linda will be returning home as you read this. We wish them a safe journey.
  • Hilary was visited this week; she is still in hospital but in a different ward. She is happy!
  • We think of those who are coping with debilitating illnesses, and all those who support them.
  • We keep Pat in our prayers as she copes with medication which has some horrible side effects, although they will lessen as the medication is reduced. She remains positive and accepts that her life style has to change. At the moment she feels ‘clapped out’ but is looking forward to when she can join us in church.
  • There are a number of people who are unable to worship with us because of poor health, their only regular link with the church is the newsletter. A visit or phone call would be most welcome.
  • We give thanks for ‘good’ news and we remember those for whom news has not been so good.
  • We pray for Clare as she prepares for her Induction and Ordination as Minister of the Valleys Pastorate in five weeks’ time!

Birthday Cards

There is just one person that we are aware of who will be celebrating their birthday this week, and that is Sue Ruck whose birthday is on Tuesday 29th. It will be her first birthday in her new home. Enjoy ‘YOUR’ day!

Our Language Class

In 2016 as a church we were invited to get involved in planning for Rhondda Cynon Taff to receive Syrian refugees during the international crisis. Two of our members joined the planning group for this.

In his report at the AGM in 2017 Rev Dr Phil Wall wrote ‘Our welcome of and work alongside our friends from South Sudan and Syria continues to be a significant part of our outworking of the gospel. Currently, this primarily takes the form of welcoming those coming through our doors for English classes on a Monday and Tuesday and church on a Sunday; arranging social events on a quarterly basis; and supporting those members who visit the families both socially and for language tuition, through prayer and encouragement. It is our duty and joy to welcome our friends to Pontypridd, to Wales, to the UK as they seek refuge from violence and attempt to build lives of peace and community.’

Robert and Pete with frequent help from Viviane and others still continue with these classes. Many people have been helped, have gained qualifications, passed exams, received ‘student of the year’ in their course at Coleg y Cymoedd. Some have been granted British citizenship.  We are still in touch with some of the families who have become friends. The language class has achieved a lot and meet most Mondays, currently there are 8 to 9 people every week.

An Appeal

A student in our language class, who lives in Porth, has a teenage son and is looking for a bicycle for him. If you can help, please contact Viviane.

An Exhibition

Cardiff Astronomical Society are celebrating 50 years with an exhibition at the Museum of Cardiff, The Hayes, Cardiff.

The exhibition is open 10am-4pm Monday to Saturday until 31st October. Entry is free.

The exhibition showcases what they do, including regular talks, outreach events and star and solar gazing at their observatory in Dyffryn Gardens. The exhibition also displays objects from the historic Penylan Observatory, Cardiff’s city Observatory, that was closed in 1979.

Our own talented Astronomer, Stephen has some photographs in the exhibition!

A Games Club

Capel Y Bont have arranged this event for Saturday 9th August starting at 2pm. It’s a great chance to hang out over board games and computer games, (or you can just grab a cuppa and chat)

Open to all ages, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thought for the Week

On the news of the hunger crisis in Gaza

The eyes, the tears, the broken and trembling

little bodies of the children of Gaza

outrage us and make us cry out for peace,

make us hunger and thirst for justice

Fr Ibrahim Faltas
