26th March 2023

A warm welcome to all who join us today which is Passion Sunday in the church calendar. If this is your first visit you are especially welcome and we hope you will feel the warmth of our welcome.

Our service today has been facilitated by members of the Worship group and is inspired by the story of Anna from ‘Women of Holy Week’.

The service will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, which will be led by Rev Ray Vincent; we invite all, who so wish, to share in the bread and wine.

The Copper Pot is, as usual, on the table; so don’t take your ‘small change’ home with you, put it in the pot, where it will be used for local charities.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.

  • We think of Marlene McCloy and the family as they prepare to say their final goodbye to Ryan (Marlene’s nephew) on Thursday.
  • We are aware of people who are having tests, or waiting for an appointment, we hope the results will provide answers and relief!
  • We ask your prayers for those who are unable to worship with us. For many poor health is the problem, for some getting going in the morning is the reason. We miss them and hope that they may feel able to join us again soon.
  • We think of those who are unable to leave their homes or are in residential care and we pray for their wellbeing and for those who care for them.

Birthdays

We have four people celebrating their Birthdays this week: Kath Couchman is celebrating today! (Sunday), Barbara Inson has a special Birthday on Monday 27th, she will be 80! Congratulations Barbara! Then we have Dorothy Davies on Tuesday 28th and Sue Skym on Friday 31st. However you choose to celebrate, enjoy yourselves, ladies!

Good News….

Anne Coles had the best Mother’s Day present ever when Mel flew home from Portugal on Mother’s Day to see her. It was a complete surprise and I didn’t know anything about it until she arrived on Sunday afternoon. She went back on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Aisha who performed with National Dance Company Wales last weekend at the Stade de France during the France vs Wales 6 Nations match and also at the residence of the British Ambassador to France. An unforgettable experience to be sure. If you’d like to see her perform in person, the company is at the Sherman on 11th & 12th May. ‘

St David’s Guild

Our speaker at Guild this week was Aled Humphreys who gave us a wonderful illustrated talk about the ongoing work in Ynysyngharad Park. A £1.9 million Heritage Lottery Fund meant a green light was given for the refurbishing of the bandstand and sunken garden areas, and delivery of a new active centre throughout 2022. There will also be new signs erected around the park depicting its history and also signs depicting, for example, birds that can be found in the park and by or on the river. The new activity centre will encourage community involvement and Aled has many exciting things planned. He will be looking for volunteers for a variety of horticultural tasks.

This lottery funding and plans for the regeneration of Pontypridd have resulted in Pontypridd being awarded the Wales Champion Town at the Let’s Celebrate Towns Awards and the town has been named among the top eight towns in the UK.

Our meeting this week will be our last weekly meeting and we will be entertained by Caryl Williams. An occasion not to be missed! Details of future meetings, possibly monthly will be given next week.

Lent Groups

The final meeting is on Wednesday 29th March, 7:30 pm at Pam Mahoney’s home.
