25th February 2024

We welcome all who join us for worship today, as we gather for the second Sunday in lent.  If you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time; we pray that you will experience peace and fellowship.

We are very fortunate to have a core of people within our fellowship who are willing to lead worship, so we are very pleased that Claire Hughes is in the ‘hot’ seat today. We pray God’s blessing on her as she leads us.

The service will include Holy Communion and all are welcome to partake of the bread and wine.

Colleen’s Handmade Cards are available in the hall following the service. EASTER CARDS are available TODAY. Cards can be made for special occasions and can be personalized.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We remember Kath in her concern for Dave who is waiting to see the surgeon to discuss the best plan before treatment starts.
  • We continue to keep Dorothy in our prayers as she comes to terms with the fact that she must not walk up or down the hill. Take it easy Dorothy, we’ll be looking out for you.
  • Stephanie will have to wait a little longer for the results of her MRI scan.
  • There are many of our fellowship who are living with constant pain, or waiting for new treatment to start.
  • We think of those for who this time of year has sad memories, may they know that they are not alone.

There are two Birthdays that we are aware of this week, both were born on St David’s Day: We wish Barbara Slade and Pam Mahoney a ‘Very Happy Birthday’, and hope you are able to celebrate in style.

St David’s Guild

Last week we had a very interesting afternoon with Norman, outreach lead, from Oasis Cardiff, a charity that helps asylum seekers and refugees. They are responsible for raising their own funds.

They opened in 2008 and in the first three weeks they had between 25 and 44 visitors that has now increased to an average of 150 per day and they are open Monday to Friday.

In an increasingly hostile world Oasis offers a safe space for people to come and experience belonging and community. Clients mainly come from Sudan, Ukraine, Iraq, Kurdistan, Iran and Eritrea; Clients come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some clients have now become volunteers

This week, we will be entertained by Eira, who received a Community Saints Award for being a Good Neighbour: ‘During lockdown she organised lots of activities, played the trumpet and acted as an MC. Such was her enthusiasm that the get-togethers were not short-lived occasions.’

We will meet in the Church and everyone and anyone is welcome to join us, please bring a friend.

Lent Studies

We continue our Lent studies at the church using the ‘Act on Poverty’ resources prepared by Christian Aid which are available online https://www.christianaid.org.uk/get-involved/campaigns/act-poverty-resource-packs

Iestyn Henson will lead the third session at 6.30pm in the Victoria Room. The theme this week is ‘Generous’. Printed copies are available on request.

Elder’s Meeting

The Elders meeting will take place on Sunday evening on zoom. On the agenda – updates on preparation for our move, arrangements for Holy Week and Easter Services, updating our Safeguarding and Food Hygiene Policies.  We hold them in our thoughts as they continue to deal with any challenges!

Thought for the week

We grasp the meaning of the Church and its mission by participation ourselves.

It’s the Spirit that pushes us to recognize Christ in the here and now;

the Spirit forces us to deal with Jesus in a particularly historical way.

Everyone sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are….

Niccolo Machiavelli 1496-1527
