23rd June 2024

Welcome to our services today. A special welcome if you are worshipping with us for the first time. We invite you to join us in the hall following the service for a time of informal fellowship when handmade cards will be available.

Our service today will be led by Rev Ray Vincent and we pray we may all know the joy of worship in God’s presence, and experience the challenge of his word to us.

The service will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper and all are invited to share the bread and wine.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We hold Ianto, Bethan and the family in our prayers as Ianto’s Mam sadly passed away on Wednesday.
  • We think of Sue Skym as she and the family have her granddaughter’s wedding before they prepare for Matthew’s funeral which will not be until July.
  • Graham Hill is recovering and had the stiches out after his fall. We think of Anne as she cares for him.
  • There are a number of people who are ‘under par’ at the moment, we hope their health improves and that medication and/or treatment helps.

Birthdays

We are aware of three people who are celebrating their birthdays this week:  Hettie on Wednesday 26th, Viviane on Thursday 27th and Sheila Greenstock Saturday 29th.    Enjoy your celebrations ladies!

Thanks….

The donations to Cancer Research Wales in memory of Brian which were collected at Glyntaf amounted to £263.55. Due to an oversight a collection plate was not available in the church, if anyone wishes to make a donation there will be plate available on Sunday.

Preparing to move to our new home!

As we start to clear cupboards etc, and not wishing to throw away items that charities may be able to benefit from we are looking for volunteers to take books to any charity shop of their choice. If you can help, please bring a bag to church on a Sunday.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM is on Monday July 1st at 7.00pm. The agenda and Minutes of our last meeting have been circulated. If you are unable to attend then please add your name to the apologies sheet or let your Elder or the Secretary know.

  ~Volunteers required!

As Pontypridd prepares to welcome the Eisteddfod to the town, we as a church will be involved in two ways….OUR church will be used as a venue for competing choirs to rehearse and we, along with other local churches will be involved in the ‘Church Hub’ based in St Catherines, where we will be serving free coffee and Welsh cakes.

St Catherines is an excellent venue as it has a fully equipped kitchen, activities for children and modern toilet facilities, including baby changing.

We will be responsible for manning the kitchen on Tuesday 6th August (TBC) from 11.30-14.30. Please give your name to Maralyn Tomlinson if you can help, even if it’s just for 1 hour!

General Election – questions for candidates

With the General Election coming on 4th July, the Elders have been working with Father Gareth Leyshon of St Dyfrigs and the local Catholic Parishes to try to arrange a Hustings. However, an in-person hustings has not been possible, because one of the main party candidates has received security advice which makes it impractical to arrange an event in the time available. Instead, certain candidates (at the time of going to press, Labour, Lib Dem, Green and two Independents) have agreed to provide answers to a shortlist of questions submitted on behalf of local churches. The answers will be made known to congregations next weekend.

The Elders, Fr Gareth and Rev Ray Vincent will select the shortlist of questions, or create composite questions bringing together several proposed questions.

To submit a question for consideration, please write your questions and bring them along to the service on Sunday 23rd June, or email it to [email protected] no later than 6 pm on Monday 24th June. All questions will be anonymous.’

A Thought for Pride weekend

We must be patient, persevering, and tender with one another and ourselves. It will take years, decades, a long time, to learn, with one another, that our power to love is stronger than the fear that festers in our alienation.
