21st April 2024

We extend a warm welcome to everyone who joins us for worship today, especially if you haven’t been able to join us for some time.

Today our service is being led by Haydn Blackey, who is always a welcome visitor. His theme is the Joy of the Easter Season and the Lord as Shepherd of us, his people.

We pray that through him, we may all receive the blessing that we most need.

Fair-traded refreshments will be served in the hall following the service, and handmade cards will be on sale We invite you to join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We are sad to report that Diana Hayns, Alison’s Mum, died peacefully on Wednesday 17th. Although Diana has been in a care home for a number of years, she used to be a regular member of our congregation and especially loved it when Phil was preaching. Diana was quite a character! We keep Alison, Steve and the family in our prayers at this time.
  • Those who will have a pre- op appointment, we hope the actual operation, when it takes place will go well.
  • Elsie has had her scan and will know on Tuesday what treatment will be required and when it will start.
  • People waiting for blood tests and dates for operations.
  • George and Linda in Grand Cayman – it was good to see George in person recently and hope he is OK after his fall while on Pontypridd. We also hope that Linda’s hospital appointment was OK.
  • Many of our fellowship are unable to join us for worship, we hold them in our prayers.

Birthdays

We are aware of three people who have birthdays this week:

Anne Coles on Tuesday 23rd, Margaret Holcombe on Thursday 25th, although Margaret is unable to join us for worship, as this is a ‘special birthday’ we want her to know that she is not forgotten!

The third birthday is Mark Crowley on Saturday 27th, an e-card will be sent to Mark

Thanks……

….from Renda, Jumaize and the family members to the all members of church

We are thankful for your love, prayers and generous gifts, they were greatly appreciated. We would like to thank you all once again for the beautiful gifts you gave to Nova . Even though we were unable to attend the service, it was nice to know that you were thinking of me and the coming of Nova, God bless you all. xxxxx

.….from Lynda     for the cards and messages I received on my birthday, my church family are wonderful!

News from the Church Meeting

  • Volunteers are still needed, to help out with managing the PowerPoint, operating the live streaming and printing the news sheet, when the usual volunteers aren’t available. Support and training will be given!
  • The Elders are looking at the pattern of services in light of the comments and suggestions given during the discussion at our Anniversary Service,
  • Members accepted the recommendation of the Elders that Liz and Pam serve for another year as Elders to keep continuity with the move and seeking new ministry. Nominations for 2 additional Elders will be needed.
  • Work on the former Castle Square building should start on Monday, April 28th providing all money is in place. Since the meeting confirmation has been received that our application for the URC grant of £65,000 has been successful.
  • Balance of the Copper Pot is £185 so it was agreed to donate £50 each to: -Rowan Tree Cancer Care, SW University Chaplaincy and Pobl (formerly Adref).
  • Treasurer’s Report – income from offerings is £1,000 less than the same quarter last year as quite a few of our members, who were regular contributors, have either left or have sadly passed away. We have received a grant from RCT for £540 towards our energy costs but our gas expenditure for Jan – Mar alone came to £2022.28 (approx. £674 per month).

Gaza Appeal

A reminder of the urgent need in Gaza. The situation is beyond catastrophic. Over 30,000 people have already died due to the conflict, a large part of them children, and the death toll could rapidly increase due to starvation or diseases.

We are supporting the URC Commitment for Life appeal for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Please respond as you are able. The appeal will remain open until April 28th

Thought for the week

To be happy you must: let go of what’s gone,

be grateful what remains,

and look forward to what is coming next.
