21st July 2024

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, especially if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time

We are very pleased to welcome Rev. Dr. Jeff Crittenden, as our worship leader today.

Jeff is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada, serving Metropolitan United in London, Ontario.  Jeff lectures on Homiletics and Liturgy at theological colleges in both Alberta and in Cardiff, Wales, as well as preparing Lay Worship Leaders at 5 Oaks Retreat Centre in Paris, Ontario.  He is a member of the Academy of Homiletics and is currently the President-elect of the London Conference.

This is not Jeff’s first visit to our church, but it is the first time he has led worship.

We look forward to a time of time of rich blessing, but also of challenge with him.

All are invited to join us for tea or coffee, which will be served in the hall following the service, when a selection of handmade cards will also available. Large cards are £2 and small cards are £1.50.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • We continue to hold, John Henson, and the family, especially Iestyn, Liz, Isobel and Tomos, in our prayers as they prepare for Valerie’s funeral.
  • We remember Sue Ruck during these early days since the passing of her brother and her niece.
  • We think of Dave, and Kath, as she cares for him, who having received the results of a recent scan is to have an operation on Tuesday. They are both pleased with the treatment and care being received.
  • Having spoken to John Davies, we understand that Jean is still hospital, and John says he is OK and not to worry about him!
  • We think of those for who this time of year holds sad memories.

Birthdays

There is no one in our church family, that we are aware of, celebrating a birthday this week. If there is, and you would like to share it with us please let us know!

Thanks….

Letter received by our Treasurer

This is an excerpt; the letter is on the table.

To: All members and adherents of United Reformed Churches and our Local Ecumenical Partnerships

Dear Friends,

Firstly, thank you for all your contributions to your local church in 2023. This includes your financial contribution which plays an important part in the life of the whole church through the Ministries & Mission Fund.

The M&M Fund of the URC pays for ministers’ stipends, training, Assembly costs and all the central support functions for ministry in the URC across three nations. The M&M Fund’s main income is contributions from the churches with some top-up from synods, together with investment income and grants etc.

Visit to Caldey Island for a Retreat ~ repeated notice!

We know it’s short notice, but if anyone would like to go, speak to Pam TODAY!

Our friends at Penrhys have invited us to join them at a retreat on Caldey Island from Tuesday July, 23rd to Friday July 27th. The cost is a suggested donation, for those who can afford it, of £70 a night which includes full board and boat crossing. There is also the option of joining for just a day or two. The retreat will be led by Penrhys’ Nurture Group.

~ More volunteers required!

It’s just two weeks away and the bunting is up and we are doing our bit to welcome and support the Eisteddfod as it comes to Pontypridd.

Many people from competing choirs will be rehearsing in ‘our’ church. Stewards are needed at different times each day 3rd – 10th August to welcome the choirs and make sure they have their allotted time for rehearsing, so we will have an opportunity to listen to them,

A sign-up sheet with the times when volunteers are required is on the table.

With regard to serving refreshments at St Catherines, we have sufficient volunteers for serving on Tuesday 6th August from 11.30-14.30.

Parking in Ponty during the Eisteddfod.

Please note this includes Sunday, so plan ahead!

From 1 August -11 August, Gas Road Car Park will be restricted to permit holders only

From 3 – 10 August, Taff Street from the junction with Bridge Street will only be accessible to permitted vehicles between 9am-1am. The daytime Taxi Rank will be located outside Llys Cadwyn (Library).

From 1am, the nighttime taxi rank will be located outside B&M on Taff Street.

From 3 – 11 August, Catherine Street Car Park will be for Blue Badge holders visiting the Eisteddfod only.

A Thought for Week

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
