1st June 2025

We welcome you all to our services today: if you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time, we hope you will feel ‘at home’ and return again soon.

We especially welcome our good friend Haydn Blackey who is leading our worship this morning. It is always a pleasure to have Haydn with us and we look forward to this time of fellowship with him.

Fair-traded refreshments will be served in the hall following the morning service. We invite you to join us for this time of informal fellowship and take time to look at the handmade cards which are on sale.

Diary for the Week

Monday 2nd                The Park Ramblers meet to walk at 10.15 followed by coffee in The Princes

Sunday 8th                  Our ZOOM Service at 10.30am will be led by Revd Simon Walkling from Christwell URC, Mansleton.

Pastoral Matters

We only include names when permission has been given.

  • We remember those that are struggling looking after family members and those who struggle with long term health issues.
  • Beti has a chest infection and is on strong medication, Marlene is now able to go out with help.
  • There are a few still in hospital who would love a change of scenery, which is not yet possible.
  • We are sad to say Ann Edwards’ sister and former Castle Sq, member, Gwyneth Strawbridge, died this week. She grew up in Castle Sq before moving to Caerphilly, and later Nottingham.

Nominations for Elders

Liz Henson and Pam Mahoney will be finishing as Elders at the AGM. We are grateful for all they have done in the past years.

Nomination forms for two places on the eldership are now available.

People on-line will have received nomination forms mid-week and we appeal to all members to take some time and prayerfully think about this and submit some names. Please don’t leave it the faithful few.

Here’s the t’s and c’s…!

Current eldership: Lynda Bull, Anne Coles, Liz Henson, Claire Hughes, Viviane Lamare, Catherine Naamani, Pam Mahoney, Colleen Rowan, Maralyn Tomlinson, Bethan Walkling.

All St. David’s Uniting Church members can nominate any other church member whom they deem to have the gifts and graces to serve God through church eldership. More than one name can be given and neither a seconder, nor the permission of the person you’re nominating needs to be sought.

All forms to be received by 15th June. The new elders will be affirmed at the AGM on Monday 30th June.

Volunteers Needed

Marcia has told the Elders that she will finish producing and printing the news sheet after the AGM.

She feels the news sheet is in need of a revamp, it has been in a similar format for 20+ years. It is an important task which she has enjoyed doing and we are all very grateful for her work.

If anyone is willing to take on this task, please let an Elder know. The work could be shared: the Elders are considering whether we might move to a fortnightly or monthly news sheet.

A Hirings Officer is still needed to oversee any group wishing to use the building, this role could also be shared.

Hopefully we can fill these vacancies by the AGM.

It’s the time of year when people are going on holiday so cover is needed to give lifts on Sundays. If you are able to help, please contact Viviane or Lynda.

The Latest figure for Christian Aid week is £975 – £860 from Envelopes and £115 from the sale of cakes. We have yet to calculate Gift-Aid.

Tears of Gold Exhibition 7 – 15 June

Temple Baptist Church are privileged to be hosting the Tears of Gold exhibition, recently hosted by Coventry, Lincoln and Truro cathedrals, as compiled by Open Doors.

“The artwork has been created by women who have undergone persecution in northern Nigeria. This will be a special privilege for the church, since we have a number in our church family who are from Nigeria. The exhibition is intended to raise awareness about the double persecution Christian women are facing in sub-Saharan Africa.     To find out more about the exhibition go to www.templebaptist.org.uk/tearsofgold
