19th March 2023
We warmly welcome all who join us for worship this Mothering Sunday, whether it is in person, online or
later on YouTube. If you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time you are especially welcome.
We extend a special welcome to our good friend Rev Aled Edwards, who is leading our worship today.
All are welcome to join us for ‘cuppa’ and a time of informal fellowship in the hall following the service.
Handmade cards for ALL occasions, including Easter, will be on sale. All proceeds go to church funds.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.

  • We continue to hold Marlene McCloy and the family in our prayers as they wait for the funeral of her nephew Ryan.
  • We remember Hilary who has a chest infection, hopefully she will feel better soon.
  • We continue to remember those who are in hospital and those who are being cared for in their homes and their families in their concern for them.
  • Janice and Graham have both had Covid, and even when they tested negative they were unable to visit Mair for ten days, thankfully that period is now over.
  • We think of those who are struggling with poor health and are unable to worship with us.
  • We were aware Roger had been suffering with a cough, but thankfully, not Covid. He is much better now, so hopefully, he will be able to join the Park Ramblers on Monday!
  • We are sorry to hear that Barbara Inson has had a flood in her home and currently has no ceiling in the lounge; she is waiting for the repair work to start.

Birthdays

We don’t have any Birthdays to celebrate this week, but we have another celebration! Our Guest minister, Rev Aled Edwards, will be retiring later this month from his post as Chief Executive of Cytûn:– We wish him a long and happy retirement.

Thanks from….

…..Gwyneth  says ‘Thankyou,  to all who sent cards, messages or rang me on my Birthday. Your good wishes were much appreciated. ~ I had a delayed celebration due to the snow!’

St David’s Guild

The speaker at last week’s Guild meeting was Helen Williams, of Pontypridd Town Council, which is one of the largest Community Councils in Wales and will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. We had an interesting afternoon learning about the services for which the Town Council is responsible. One of Helen’s success stories is the creation of the Meadow Street Community Garden & Woodland; a safe and welcoming place where people can come and enjoy the benefits of nature, home-grown produce, and have the opportunity to share and learn new skills. The aim is to put Pontypridd on the map by becoming part of the National Forest for Wales.

We finished the afternoon with a game of Kurling, aimed to keep us active, almost everyone was able to take part, even if they were sitting down!

Next week we will hear about the new centre (Calon Taf) that is being built in Ynysyngharad Park as the manager, Aled Humphreys will be our guest speaker.

Lent Groups

The Lent Group meeting this week is at the home of Sue Walkling. The sign-up sheets are on the table. Please add your name if you are going so the host can cater and have enough chairs!

The final meeting is on Wednesday 29th March, 7:30 pm at Pam Mahoney’s home.

Mothering Sunday

Today is Mothering Sunday. The origins of the tradition go back to the practice in the Church of the daughter churches visiting their Mother Church or the Church that founded them, and giving thanks to God for the gift of life given by the Mother Church. It is easy to see how this became transferred to us honouring our own Mothers. What better way could we find of honouring our Mother than coming to Church and giving thanks for the giving of life and love that we have had from our Mothers. It is also nice to be able to give them a present or some card expressing our love and appreciation. However, we should not limit ourselves to just this day. We all need affirmation from time to time, we all like to be valued and appreciated.

Thought for the week

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the former.

Albert Einstein

British Summer Time

Don’t forget to put your clocks ON by one hour next Saturday or you will be late for church!
