19th January 2025

We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, either on line or in person, as we celebrate 23 years since we became St David’s UNITING Church. If you are a visitor or worshipping with us for the first time, we hope you will feel the warmth of our welcome and join us again soon.

We thank those of the Worship Group who have planned the service, and all who will be taking part.

We will have cake with our tea and coffee after the service to celebrate our anniversary. Handmade cards for ALL occasions will also be on sale. Please join us for this time of informal fellowship.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:

  • We are very pleased to report that Stephanie returned home on Wednesday, she is a lot better, but very weak. She is hoping to have a visit from the Physiotherapist. We keep her, and Alan as he cares for her, in our prayers.
  • Jean Davies fell on Thursday and was taken to Prince Charles hospital to be checked; it was hoped she would only be in overnight.
  • We think of Bethan and Ianto as his grandmother is still in hospital and Sue Walkling as she waits for her shoulder to heal.
  • Several people in our fellowship have been suffering with the viral cough that is going around. Hopefully they will recover quickly.

Birthdays ……

…We are not aware of any birthdays this week

Good News

Aisha is pretty much fully recovered following her surgery and will be performing her own solo work next week in Resolution, an annual Dance Festival which is held at The Place in London, where she trained. https://theplace.org.uk/events/res-25-aisha-naamani-annie-kelleher-gabrielle-luke

She and Catherine would like to say thank you for all the get well messages.

Diary for the Week

Monday 20th               Language Class in the Hall at 10.00am

The Park Ramblers will meet to walk at 10.15 followed by Coffee at The Princes

Wednesday 22nd              St David’s Guild will meet from 1.45pm at St Catherine’s (See item below)

Sunday 27th                Rev Rob May will lead our service at 10.45.

The service will include Communion and we will welcome Ugo as a member of our fellowship.

St David’s Guild

Great fun was had by guild members last Wednesday when they took part in a beetle drive. There was much laughter, noise and some frustration when a throw of a six was needed to start but proved elusive for some people!

This week we look forward to a visit from Wil Morus Jones who will give us an illustrated talk on Dr William Price. Dr Price was a Welsh physician and political activist best known for his support of Welsh Nationalism.

Future Services

Sunday 2nd February            Rev Peter Noble

            Sunday 9th February            Haydn Blackey

                        Sunday 16th February          Maggie Kirkbride

Apologies….

…..to those who joined worship last week from the sanctuary, and were unable to hear, or sing the hymns when we joined Rev Simon Walkling and the congregation of Christwell Church, Manselton. Fortunately that was the only part of the service we missed! We are very grateful to Christwell for allowing us to join them for this ‘hybrid’ service. We will join them again in June, when hopefully all will be well.

A Date for your Diary

Celebrating the Week of prayer for Christian Unity

“Do you believe this?” – the 2025 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity commemorates 1700 years since the Council of Nicea, and the beginnings of the Creed familiar to so many Christians today. We are invited to join other believers in praying for unity at St Dyfrig’s Church, Broadway, Treforest at 6 pm on Friday 24 January  ~  All welcome! –

GDPR Forms

A reminder! We need to update our GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) records. Our original forms didn’t include all the information required. It’s seven years since most people completed a form. Everyone will need to complete and return a new form a.s.a.p – it can be completed on-line using this link                   https://forms.gle/geVz83Yt9A3W4BrM6

Paper forms are also available from Marcia.

Leprosy Mission Appeal

Following the very moving video which was both informative and shocking, we have extended the closing date for the appeal until 26th January, which is World Leprosy Day.

A message from the Treasurer

If you would like to use offertory envelopes for your collection we have some spare, you don’t have to be a member, just ask Anne Coles.

Thought for the Week

You have to accept whatever comes,

and the only important thing is that you meet it with the best you have to give.
