17th November 2024

Welcome, to everyone who joins us today, whether in person, on-line or later on YouTube.

Our service today is being led by Dave Kitchen, retired head teacher and author of ‘Bible in Ten’, every book of the Bible cracked in 10 minutes or less

Dave’s last visit to us was for our final service in Gelliwastad Road; we are delighted to welcome him to our new home in Treforest and we look forward to a time of fellowship and inspiration as he leads our worship today.

Following the service there will be a Church Meeting: we invite you to grab a cup of tea or coffee and return to the sanctuary. Please remember to sign the Attendance sheet, or if you are unable to stay, please sign the Apologies Sheet. The minutes of the last meeting are on the table at the back of the church.

Items on the agenda will include Advent and Christmas Services, Christmas Charities and Future Ministry.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week:

  • We were sorry to hear that Jean Davies has been in hospital and unfortunately caught a bug while she was there, hopefully she is now back at home with John.
  • Jayne is relieved, that the biopsy results did not show anything serious, she has a follow up appointment in January, and thanks everyone for their prayers.
  • Margaret Wicks is getting better, and was able to get to her choir practice last week.
  • We are delighted to report that the trial that Gwyneth has been involved in for one of her cancers has now been licensed and will be available on prescription, also she is in full remission from that cancer. But Guys hospital are still keeping a check on her as unfortunately one of the other cancers is causing a little concern and her next appointment with them is in February.
  • Stephanie has an appointment for an injection in her back to help relieve the constant pain that she endures, she has also been experiencing some problems following her cataract operation
  • We think of those for whom this time of year holds sad memories.
  • We give thanks for ‘good’ news and we remember those for whom news has not been so good.

Birthdays.

There are no birthday’s that we are aware of this week, but would remind you that there are handmade birthday cards and a vast range of Christmas cards available in the hall.

Thanks….

…..from Beti –‘ I thank everybody for their birthday greetings, cards and gifts I received. I had a memorable and a really lovely time. Thankyou everyone.’

St David’s Guild

Stephen introduced us to the story of Harvard Computers- a name given to a team of women working as skilled workers to process data at the Harvard College Observatory in the USA. They were paid half of what men were paid and, in many cases produced a better quality of work. They achieved several discoveries including how to calculate the distance to the stars that in turn expanded the known size of the universe. They also established that the core component of the sun and every star was hydrogen. Eventually the great strides made by women were recognised for the significant contribution they had made in the field of astronomy.          Thank you Stephen for such an interesting afternoon.

Please bring an item to share with us in next week’s meeting. It can be anything at all – for eg a memento of your holiday; a cherished photo; something from your hobby; a piece of jewellery or even something you dislike!
