11th Aug 2024

We welcome everyone to our services today, whether you are joining us on Zoom, when we will join Simon Walkling and the congregation of Christwell URC, Swansea, in person at St David’s, or later on YouTube.

The Zoom, the link will be open from 10.15am, the service will start at 10.30am.  Michael Howells will lead a service at St David’s at 10.45 am.

This will be the last service that Michael will lead at St David’s, as no services or meetings will be held in the church after 1st September.

Back in March 2022 when COVID restrictions were eased and we returned to ‘live’ worship it was decided to have a Zoom service once a month, as they reached a geographically wider audience, which many people appreciated. Michael volunteered to lead a parallel service in St David’s for those without internet or who preferred ‘live’ worship.

Michael has led these services since April 2022, and they have been much appreciated, we are very grateful to Michael for his willingness to lead these services.

Tea and coffee, will be served in the hall following the service and Handmade cards will be available.

Church Family and Pastoral News

We include this in the newsletter to inform our prayers during the week.

  • There are many members of our fellowship who live alone and are unable to join us for worship very often, we remember particularly: Hettie, Sharon, Cyril, Hilary, Lorraine, Sue Salmon, Barbara, Gwenllian and Marilyn Young.
  • Jean Davies is waiting for a care package before she can be discharged, John is missing her.
  • Elsie has had a scan and will have to wait until August 20th for the results.
  • Annette has recovered from her fall, but is still a little sore, she keeps thinking she is 20 years younger!

Birthdays

We have five people in our church family who have their birthday’s this week! And two of them have a zero on the end!  On Monday 12th Jane Jones will be celebrating, then on Tuesday 13th Jen Edwards will, hopefully, have a BIG celebration as it’s a special birthday! Rhiannon Howells will be 15 on Wednesday 14th and Colleen will also be celebrating the same day, finally on Saturday 17th Anne Hill has a BIG celebration! We hope you are all able to celebrate in style, and enjoy your birthdays.

Good News & Thanks

Dave is home and is looking forward to visiting Clwb y Bont!   Kath wishes to thank everyone for their messages and phone calls, the support from everyone has been wonderful.

Dave is recovering really well, and his consultant visited him every day. We are so lucky with our health care.

Future Services

August 25th      Stephen Webber       September 1st        Dave Kitchen       September 8th Lewis Lewis-Head

Progress on our move to Treforest.

No move is ever easy! And the Eisteddfod took a lot of time last week.

We are contacting removal firms on Monday to assess our requirements and fix the date.

The sound and vision equipment will be installed as soon as possible, after last service we don’t have a date yet!

We will not have a land line in Treforest. We will have a dedicated mobile phone, which could well prove better as it will be with a designated person all the time, and when that person is away someone else will take the calls.

Our last newsletter with Gelliwastad Road as the address will be on September 1st. There will not be a newsletter on September 8th.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed on September 15th.

As Pontypridd returns to normal, we thank all those who volunteered as stewards as competing choirs rehearsed in our church last week.

The floral displays in St Catherine’s were very beautiful and the contribution from St David’s Uniting was given a prominent position in front of the alter. It may well be used as a welcome slide in a future service!

We have a very proud Mamgu in our church family as Gruff, one of Pam’s grandsons was one of the children performing Y Ddawns Flodau, (The Flower Dance) in the ceremonies.

No one should need to turn to charity for something as essential as food. Everyone in the UK should have enough money to live on. We’re determined to make this a reality. Until then, our food banks will continue to work tirelessly to support people in your community.

We support Pontypridd foodbank with monetary donations which can be placed in the box on the table.

Thought for the Week.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
