Every year on the Sunday before our AGM we have a Celebration Sunday.
We celebrate the work that the groups and organisations have done during the year.
Some of our congregation share their own personal thoughts, reflections and items which have had a particular impact or significance over the last year.
This prayer is one of the contributions!
Almighty God, upon this special Day
as we’ve come to church to pray,
as we’ve come to church to sing
Lord your Blessings to us bring.
This Christian Fellowship of love
within these walls – as from above.
As each to each – and face to face
we to each other, with love, embrace.
We feel each other’s sorrows, pain,
the sense of loss, that leaves its stain.
We share with joy, a wedding, birth,
an anniversary, laughter, mirth.
It is a building, but our Sanctuary too –
kept immaculate by those who ‘Do!’
Unsung heroes for every chore –
and always to everyone an ‘Open Door’.
From Minister, members, strangers, friends.
we welcome ALL who here attends.
It is the Holy House of God,
where thru decades folk have trod,
with loving hearts and gentle ways,
who here within have sung Gods praise!
Pilgrims, yes, upon this road,
where we can pray and shed our load.
So, may this church as beacon stand,
with God himself forever at hand.
Hour by hour, we know we’re blest-
comforts abound in peace and rest.
But now we pray for the millions who
are now unable to make it thru
starvation – torture – genocide-
injustice – poverty – tsunami tide –
imprisonment without a cause –
O Lord, we for a while will pause……..
To contemplate what life must be
for our sisters and brothers over the sea.
Our heavy hearts ache, our tears we weep
there terrible plight in our minds will keep,
and pray for ‘change’ in this broken world
as the iron fist is inward curled.
As murder, violence and drugs erupt,
when leaders of nations are corrupt,
we ask ourselves, where do we go?
has the world to suffer more and more.
We ask ourselves, to whom do we turn?
as our anxious minds and innards churn.
The answers here for all to see,
’tis the blessed Lord of Calvary.
A loving Father in heaven above,
our almighty God of hope and love.
I urge us all to Him then pray,
to save us all from death, decay,
that evil wickedness will cease,
and for all humanity to live in peace.
