3rd January 2021
Our last Zoom Service for 2020 was also a ‘first’. The first New Year’s Eve Service we have held. We may not have been many but we there were people from the north, the east and the Cayman Islands! We were very grateful to Phil who took time out of his leave to lead the service.
Many will have stayed up to see the Old Year out and the New Year in without the usual celebrations. We will all be hoping and praying for a Healthy, Happy, and eventually COVID free year.
Today’s service is being led by Iestyn, as Phil is on leave until 6th January enjoying an unexpected staycation!
We look ahead with hope knowing that a second vaccine has now been approved and more clinics will open as more people will be able to receive protection from this virus.
We’ve missed one news-letter, so we are catching up on two weeks news! Sadly. the news has not been good. We have tried to let people know by email or phone, but if you haven’t heard some of the news we apologise.
Some of our friends have suffered bereavements and some have said their last goodbye’s. We ask your prayers for:
- Stephanie whose sister, Pat who passed away on 19th December. Because of restrictions Stephanie will not be able to attend the funeral when it is arranged.
- Helen, Ceinwen’s daughter, and all who were friends of Ceinwen who died in hospital quite suddenly on December 21st. We will miss her quiet presence at our services, when we are able to return.
- Ann Jones sadly died in hospital the early hours of December 23rd. Our thoughts are with David, Sue, Bethan, Ben and Simon also Linda, David and Paul. Ann will be greatly missed in Church and at Ladies Guild.
- Colleen’s Mum, who had been unwell for a short time and was also in hospital passed away peacefully on December 28th. We remember Colleen, her sisters, the grandchildren and the rest of the family.
- Sheila’s Son is still in hospital and is quite poorly, we hold Sheila and the family in our prayers.
- We continue to remember those in hospital, Bernice, Sue S and Chris F.
- We remember those for whom this New Year is the first without a loved one: especially Catherine, Hilary, Vena, Claire, Elsie and Marilyn.
- Brenda Elias was unable to return to her home for Christmas or the New year. Hopefully it will be soon!
Birthdays this week …..
We have just one birthday that we know of this week. – An Epiphany Baby – Carol Powell celebrates on 6 January.
Sharing Good News ~
Cyril is pleased to share with us that his daughter Janet and her husband Clive will be celebrating their Ruby wedding on January 4th. Janet and the family used to worship at Pontypridd United.
Thanks from…David Jones and the Walkling’s
David, Sue, Simon, Bethan, Ben and the rest of the family want to thank church family and friends for the messages, cards and phone calls since Ann died on 23/12. Being part of the church and Guild was important to Ann and we are thankful for the support. There will be a link for live-streaming her funeral on 18/01 for those who cannot come another way. Diolch yn fawr. ‘
During this year many people have given items for the newsletter, sadly space hasn’t permitted all of them to be used, but they have been filed and may well appear at a later date!
On January 11th we will discuss the future of a post-Covid Wales with Pontypridd MP, Alex Davies-Jones, and Cytun’s National Assembly Policy Advisor, Revd Gethin Rhys.
Christmas Greetings and Thanks
Phil would like to thank everyone for all the cards, gifts, and messages of good will sent to him and to the church in general over the past month (some without names!). The words of encouragement in particular have been so appreciated this year and your card-making and writing talents put me to shame! Wishing everyone a blessed, if rather different, Christmas and a happy, healthy new year.
Sandra Buttrick (Daughter of the late Alma & Stan) sent greetings to all who she knows.
Many of Phil’s cards included good wishes to the members and friends of our churches. THANKYOU!
Something to make you smile
A woman standing nude in front of a mirror says to her husband: ‘I look horrible, I feel fat and ugly, pay me a compliment.’ He replies, ‘Your eyesight is perfect.’

A Message from Castle Square folk
At the start of this new year we would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get the news to all who need it in this past difficult year. Special thanks to you Marcia for all your hard work getting everything together AND Extra special thanks too, to Phil who has had a challenging year and met every task with good grace.
Let’s hope that 2021 will be a better year for us all.
The amount Pat has received from the collection boxes and donations is £450. Many thanks for your generous gifts. If you intended to give and had forgotten it’s not too late!
A Thought for 2021
“In the New Year, never forget to thank to your past years because they enabled you to reach today! Without the stairs of the past, you cannot arrive at the future!”― Mehmet Murat ildan
