Welcome everyone to our service today which will be led by our Minister.

As this is the fifth Sunday of the month there is no Evening Worship
Fair-trade tea and coffee will be served after this morning’s service, we invite you to enjoy a ‘cuppa and a chat’ in the company of friends. Hand- made greetings cards will also be on sale.
The Copper Pot is, on the table; so don’t take your ‘small change’ home with you, put it in the pot, where it will be used for local charities.

Church Family and Pastoral News
People to hold in your thoughts and prayers during this week:
- Please remember Margaret Johnson, who had a fall and Caroline as she continues her slow recovery.
- All who are housebound, or are unable to attend worship.those who are lonely – a phone call, or an occasional visit and a chat would be very welcome.
For those who didn’t hear the news last week we celebrate with Susan Thomas with the safe, but early arrival of her second Grandson, Josuha Iwan.
Congratulations to Aisha who has been awarded the Peggy Hawkins scholarship at London Contemporary Dance School for her achievements this year. The scholarship was established by her son, Anthony van Laast (who choreographed Mamma Mia and Beauty & the Beast!) and Pernille Charrington. As well as financial support, Aisha will receive advice and guidance from Anthony and Pernille next year.
This Week and in the future:
Calling All Singers! Phil will be leading another short act of worship at the Pontypridd Care Home at 3pm on 8th August. This half hour service will be followed by time for a drink and a chat with the residents. All willing singers and chatters would be very welcome to come! Thanks to all who supported us last Friday, our presence was much appreciated.
Summer work with our Syrian and South Sudanese friends – if you feel you can volunteer for 30 minutes making tea to two hours helping look after children as a one off on a Monday morning over the summer holidays, please do sign up to help at the back of the church.
Is anybody is free to help in the Fairtrade Tent at the BIG BITE weekend on August 5th and 6th? It involves: giving out leaflets and engaging people in conversation, selling Fairtrade produce; encouraging people to sign our petition to Sainsburys; and helping us run our competition.
Our next film and chat afternoon will be 13th August, 4-7pm; we will be watching a satirical comedy-drama which reflects upon our obsession with reality tv, alongside the question of free will. Certificate PG.

They have visited us twice before and have asked to perform here again!
They are a group of young musicians from Germany who fund their own tours.
Summer Cinema Trip, 6pm, 17th August. Come along to Chapter, Cardiff to watch an award-winning romantic comedy that sees Pakistani-born Kumail and Chicago-born Emily navigate their cross-cultural relationship. Certificate 15. Feel free to stay on afterwards for food/drinks and post-film reviews. Please book your ticket online or speak to Phil.
Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend 2017 takes place on the weekend of Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August in Cardiff. The Parade departs from Churchill way at 11am making it’s way through the city centre streets ending up at the City Hall lawns at approx 12.30 where there will be music, food, events and Faith Tent with fellowship, worship a range of speakers on LGBT+ Christian Topics.

The minutes of our AGM will be out soon but in the meantime, thanks to all who attended and ‘all the best’ to Pam and Michael who were affirmed to serve as elders once again.– increasing the number of Elders to 11. The pastoral lists will be updated and new Directories will be ready soon. Laminated copies are will be 10p
All officers agreed to serve for another year. Thanks were expressed to them all for their willingness to take these roles.
Presbytery Same Sex Proposal. Approval was given for the proposal recommended by the elders to be given to the Presbyterian Church of Wales asking them to reconsider its position on same sex marriage.
Wider Church Family – Phil is now a Trustee of the Penrhys Partnership. To forge our links with Castle Square both churches will appoint a ‘Link’ Elder.

To mark the start of our year’s work looking at mental health awareness with Citizens Cymru, services on August 13th & 20th and September 10th & 17th will be reflecting on mental health and Christianity. Please do speak to Phil if you would like to offer input about the subject and our contemplation of it.
Can you help us tidy up the stage? The suggested dates are – Wednesday 16th, Tuesday 22nd or Wednesday 23rd in the evening. If you can help please give your name to Lynda.
Our donations to the Foodbank for July were 17.1kgs.
With the school holidays there will be a greater demand as many families rely on free school meals. So we ask, that if you are able, to put an item in the box. If you can’t get to the shops money is also accepted, and can be given to Alan.
