Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.
- We remember Anne & Vern as Vern has been in hospital having treatment for pain control, also Claire and Rob, as he continues his treatment at home.
- We sadly report that Edwina, one of the pilgrims to the Holy land has died. We remember the family, and those who were close to her at this sad time.
- Clifford, who attends evening service is in hospital, we hope he will be home soon.
- Loreen, who has had her operation postponed.
- We wish Bon Voyage to those who are travelling and hope they will return soon.
- All those related to our fellowship who will be receiving the results of GCSE’s or A levels in the coming weeks.
We rejoice with Dorothy whose grandson Jacob has been awarded a Master of Engineering degree.
Thanks. Caroline would like to thank those who are keeping her up to date with the church news by sending copies of the News sheet and the occasional sermon. She found the AGM reports very interesting! They are much appreciated, and it keeps her in touch with Pontypridd.
This Week and in the future
July 31st is the date for the next Ladies Guild Afternoon Tea – it will be an Italian themed afternoon to fit in with the film we will be watching. We will meet at 12.30, the film is approx. 2 hours so we should be finished by 4pm.
Service for Sudan/South Sudan – At our evening service on 4th August, we will be especially praying for the people of Sudan and South Sudan as they face ongoing hardship.
August Film and Chat – 4pm, 18th August. As it’s summer, we’re going on a trip to India at our next film and chat afternoon. Come join us for an award-winning drama which explores relationships, racism and religion. Certificate PG.
Summer Outing! On Saturday 31st August, we will have our fundraising walk followed by afternoon tea at Libanus URC, Libanus – one of Julie’s churches. there is a sign-up sheet at the back for the tea – we encourage you to take advantage of the coach travel – we may even have a singsong on the way back!!
We will be leaving at 3pm and arriving back around 7pm.
Our Fundraising Walk will take place on Saturday 31st August. We will start at Rhydycar Leisure Centre Merthyr at 9am and walk the Taff Trail hopefully arriving at Storey Arms between 1 and 2pm approximately 10 miles. We will then walk from Storey Arms to Lyn y Bedw approximately 5 miles where we will have transport to take us the short journey down lanes to Libanus. If anyone would like to join us for the full or short walk you would be most welcome to join us and there is a sign-up sheet at the back of the church. Volunteers will be required to help with transport to Libanus and possibly at other points. Michael has more details. Forms for everyone to help with the fundraising will be available next week.
A date for September! ‘Do you want something fixed for free? Can you fix things?’ Pontypridd’s very first Repair Café Wales will be in St Catherine’s from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 28th.
Church Trip away June 2020……we are proposing going to the award-winning British equivalent of the Passion Play in Wintershall next June where, over six hours (including lunch) the audience are invited to follow the birth, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. Please indicate your interest on the sign- up sheet. Friends and families most welcome along too!
Time for God (TfG) volunteers – Unfortunately, one of our agreed volunteers has dropped out of the scheme (something which the TfG team assures us is very rare) and his partner has also pulled out of the scheme in Christ Well URC, Swansea. Given that Christ Well have already spent many months and tens of thousands of pounds in preparing for their volunteers, Phil made the decision that it would only be fair to offer our remaining volunteer the chance to go to Christ Well. This thus means that we will not be joined by any volunteers until either January or September 2020 (the start dates for TfG’s two pools of volunteers). Whilst this is disappointing, it will give us the chance to build upon other areas of growth in our mission as well as having a longer period in which to prepare for next year’s volunteers. TfG has assured us that we’ll be a priority for them next year whilst Neil Riches, minister at Christ Well has said ‘Many thanks to the good folk of Pontypridd for your grace and generosity’.
During the Summer holidays please keep donating…the demand usually increases when the schools are closed.
Christmas 2019. Yes, we’re thinking about it already! If you’re at a loose end over the summer and are crafty (!), we’re looking for some volunteers to knit a few Christmas angels for various events this advent. Patterns are at the back, please speak with Chris Fennell if you need any advice.
New Elder’s pastoral lists have been revised and the updated Church Directory will be available next week.
There are still some copies of the AGM reports on the table, if you haven’t received one please take one, they make interesting reading!
The next news sheet will be on September 1st so keep this one safe!
