21st July 2019
Welcome to our services today. A special welcome if you are worshiping with us for the first time.
Phil, hopefully refreshed and not worn out after spending time with his energetic nephews, will be leading our service this morning. The service will include the celebration of Holy Communion which all are invited to share.
We will also be joined by Miara from Madagascar who will be sharing with us what 8 years serving as a missionary in Penrhys have been like.
We are invited to join Miara at Penrhys this afternoon at 2.30 to hear more about Madagascar.
Fairtrade tea and coffee will be served following the morning service and cards will also be on sale. As usual the copper pot is on the table waiting for your ‘small change’, and the FoodBank boxes are also available for your donations.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.
- We continue to pray for Claire and Rob, as he continues his treatment.
- We pray for those who reside in care homes, especially Caroline, Brenda, Edith and Colleen’s Mum.
- We celebrate with those who passed exams following years of studying.
- We rejoice with those who have received good news after having x-rays and we remember all who are struggling with illness and are coping with treatment.
- We remember those who enhance our worship every Sunday: Organists, Cantorion, Readers, Flower arrangers, Junior Church staff, Welcomers at the door and coffee makers
- Those who are sharing their ministry with friends elsewhere: Iestyn at Parkminster this morning, and Ray at Castle Sq this morning and Edwardsville this evening.

This Week and in the future
All are welcome to join us this afternoon at 4pm for our monthly Film and Chat As it is the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing we will celebrate with a screening a drama which charts those first iconic steps. (certificate 12)
July 31st is the date for the next Ladies Guild Afternoon Tea – it will be an Italian themed afternoon to fit in with the film we will be watching. The start time is yet to be arranged – so watch this space!!
A Summer Outing….On Saturday 31st August, we will have our fundraising walk followed by afternoon tea at Libanus URC, Libanus – one of Julie’s churches. Details of the walk will be out soon but there is a sign-up sheet at the back for those just wanting to come to the tea – with an option to go by coach – leaving at 3pm and arriving back around 7pm.
Church Trip away June 2020. Every 10 years, the village of Oberammergau in Germany stage their world-famous passion play in thanks for God’s help in a time of plague. Knowing that we can’t all get to Germany, we are proposing going to the award-winning British equivalent in Wintershall next June where, over six hours (including lunch with the ‘five thousand’) the audience are invited to follow the birth, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. We are looking for an idea of numbers so at the back two options are outlined – one going there and back in a day (23rd June costing £40 per person) and one yet to be costed where we would stay overnight (23-24th June). Please indicate your interest – friends and families most welcome along too!

Notices
Because of the amount of food being distributed, St Luke’s Rhydyfelin, which was perfect at the time of conception, but it is no longer the case. The pressure on St Luke’s and St Catherine’s, who distribute the food, they fulfilled1382 vouchers, which was 2405 people fed, or 7215 meals provided.
When the food bank opened in 2011 89 meals were given out – that is a massive increase! This is just in the Pontypridd area.
So please continue to donate in whatever way you choose.
The suggested dates for the Birthday ‘get together’ for those with birthdays in July and August are Lunch on Thursday 1st, Evening Meal on Thursday 8th or Lunch on Sunday 11th. The new sign-up sheet is at the back of the church.
Following the election of new Elder’s the pastoral lists have been revised. Copies of the updated Church Directory’s will be available next week.
Next weeks news sheet will be the last until September. If anyone has anything of interest to share, please let Marcia know by Wednesday 24th July.
