Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.
- We remember Catherine Naamani and the Family. Catherine’s Mum, Connie passed away early on Tuesday 7th
- Chris Morris who will be in Prince Charles hospital for a further week
- Haydn who is still in hospital and Hilary in her concern for him.
- Dorothy as she waits to say a final farewell to her sister who passed away over the Christmas period.
- We continue to remember the people of Australia and their families in this country in their concern for their safety.
- Please remember those who face making difficult decisions.
- We remember those of our fellowship who are unable to remember us, and we pray for their well-being,
- Those sharing ministry elsewhere: Ray at Taffs Well this morning.
Thanks! Chris and Margaret wish to thank everyone for the many cards, messages and phone calls they have received since Chris was admitted to hospital. The problem has been diagnosed, now they need to work out the best treatment for him!
This Week and in the future
Following a very successful meeting last week looking at ‘old’ photos of ourselves, this week Ladies Guild are delighted to be welcoming back Julie Kirby, who is now a Minister in the Brecon pastorate. The subject states ‘Reflections’, however with Julie we are assured that it will be an interesting afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at 2pm in the Victoria room!
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (18–25 January)
To mark this year’s week of prayer for Christian unity, Phil and Julie will be ‘pulpit swapping’ next Sunday. Julie will be leading her first Communion service here whilst Phil will be leading the morning service at The Plough in Brecon before returning to lead the film and chat afternoon. Other week of prayer activities to be outlined next week.
For our ‘Film & Chat’ next Sunday (January 19th) we will be watching and discussing an acclaimed new drama which portrays differing views on the Church’s place in the world. Certificate 12A.
Have you put the date in your diary for our Fundraising Games Night on Saturday 25th January, 6pm-8pm? There is a suggested minimum donation of £3 per person. A variety of games will be available some old some new! There will be action games and ‘table’ games, so there will be something for all ages and all abilities!! If you can provide a game speak to Liz or Pete today. ALL are invited to come along and join in an evening of fun while possibly reliving memories of days gone by!!
CAKE. Provoked by some members who have shown interest in an open discussion group for all, at 7:30pm on Monday 20th January, all are welcome to come to Clwb-y-Bont to trial a once a month CAKE (Christians Against Knowing Everything) meeting. If you fancy conversation and carrot cake or pontificating over a pint, you’re welcome to come along.
Phil and some friends from Temple Baptist are starting an informal Book Club which will first meet at 7:30pm on February 24th (venue to be confirmed). The first book to be read and discussed will be John Lanchester’s ‘The Wall’, longlisted for last year’s Booker prize. Copies can be bought for £6 online or you may want to support your local bookshop or library.
A reminder that ‘shopping lists’ with items required by the foodbank are on the table. Please take one and add an item to your weekly shop.
