Welcome
John 20:1-10
Hymn
Two disciples running to the graveyard;
running to check out what Mary had just said.
One runs faster, getting to the opening,
but he doesn’t go in, just pokes in his head:
Sees the grave clothes folded neatly
Sees the body now is gone.
Simon Peter catches up and walks in
trying to make sense of what’s been going on.
Simon Peter’s heart is beating faster,
sees the linen shroud and cloth meant for the head.
Then the first disciple goes to join him
and begins believing all that Jesus said.
Yet they didn’t link the scriptures,
those that said Jesus must rise,
so they turned and went to wander homeward,
contemplating whether to believe their eyes.
In our world that measures first and second,
those who are the fastest, those who have the most,
do we worry which disciples got there,
which of them went in first, which believed the most?
To find faith we need each other;
Mary, Peter, One Loved Best;
Through our searching or through revelation,
Jesus meets us here to give our life new zest.

John 21:1-14: Bringing ourselves
Hymn
The friends spent all night in the boat
out on Galilee, (say where?)
out on Galilee, out on Galilee
They had no luck by morning light,
so they rowed for home, so they rowed for home.
Oh no, they’d wasted half the night,
with not a fish in sight,
no matter how hard they tried,
but yes, there’s room for ev’ryone,
to gather to the Son,
for God’s love spreads deep and wide.
A stranger standing on the shore
shouted, ‘Got no fish?’ (oh no!)…
shouted, ‘Got no fish? shouted, ‘Got no fish?
Try casting to the other side,
there you’ll fill your nets, then you’ll fill your nets.
And yes, the fish were gathered in,
of ev’ry scale and fin,
too many to haul inside,
Oh yes, there’s room for ev’ryone,
all gathered to the Son,
for God’s love spreads deep and wide.
The loved disciple said to Pete,
‘that must be the Lord!’ (right there)…
‘that must be the Lord!’ ‘that must be the Lord!’
So Peter dressed and jumped right in,
then he swam to shore, then he swam to shore.
Well Jesus had some fish prepared:
come for breakfast now, (right here)…
come for breakfast now, come for breakfast now,
And bring some of the fish you’ve caught
to complete the feast, to complete the feast.
Then Jesus talked with Pete and said,
‘Do you love me more?’ (oh yeah)…
‘Do you love me more?’ ‘Do you love me more?’
And Peter felt quite hurt and said,
‘Lord you know I do,’ ‘Lord you know I do.’
And so, the fish were gathered in,
of ev’ry scale and fin,
too many to haul inside,
Oh yes, there’s room for ev’ryone,
all gathered to the Son,
for God’s love spreads deep and wide.
