19th April 2020
Today is referred to in the Christian Calendar as Low Sunday, but last year we were reminded that there is an old tradition of making the Sunday after Easter ‘Laughter’ or Holy Humour’ day!
As we are all living with social distancing and isolation many are finding it difficult to laugh….read on to see something to, hopefully, make you smile!
If anyone has an item to share, which will make us smile or help us in our daily lives please pass it on.
In his Mid-week reflection this week Phil talked about memorable meals…..in particular a communion meal, a church meal and another – we have been challenged to respond! Some have already responded…if you want to share your memorable meals, phone Marcia or Janice, or email to the address above. We will print them over the next two week.
Phil’s reflection today spoke of the need to find time to stop and breathe with God. Those who enjoy a more contemplative service are invited to go to https://solacepod.com/ where Chris Fosten, friend of the church (who was due to be with us with his wife, Penny, and son, Rowan, over holy week) leads us through a time of lectio divina worship. Why not give it a try?
Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.
- Even though she is in hospital Chris Fennell is participating in the Church Chat group! She is hoping to be moved from Royal Glam and is looking forward to having the plaster off and starting Physio!
- Colleen is still in pain, but improving and has been told it will take time! She is missing making cards!.
- Margaret Major is still in Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda (Llwynypia), but is not too well at the moment, so her transfer to a nursing home has been postponed.
- There are several people who have had operations postponed with no future date being given. This is quite stressful for them.
- Most of us have been able to enjoy the sunshine in our gardens or at least outside our homes. Please spare a thought for those who live in flats or are unable to leave their homes!
- We give thanks for all that Phil has arranged to keep us informed during these ‘strange’ times!
- We rejoice with Tina & Simon on the birth on April 7th of their second grand-daughter, Imogen Elizabeth Congratulations also to Harriet and Stefan.
I would like to thank everyone for the many phone calls and get-well cards I received during my recent illness. I am improving slowly and looking forward to seeing everyone before too long! Thank you! Gwenllian.
We’ve received a thank you card from flood victim, Brenda Elias
“Thank you so much for the lovely cards and the message you wrote to me. I have put the NHS card in my window and do please thank everyone at the church for their kindness. I will put it to good use when I start to put my home back together…I hope you and all the church members are keeping safe and well…love and God bless, Brenda.”
Marilyn Dillworth sends special thanks to the folk of Castle Square for the phone calls and particularly the lovely flowers we received.
Four people we know of who are celebrating birthdays this week are; Cerys and Gwyneth Sheryn (95!), on 22nd, Anne Coles on 23rd and Margaret Holcombe on 24th. If you would like to receive a mention in the newsletter please let Janice Harris or Marcia know.
Those who buy greetings cards made by Colleen will be delighted to learn that last year she raised a magnificent £534 which as you know is donated to the church. THANK YOU, Colleen!
Colleen says ‘I can’t wait to be able to get back to making some more cards, in preparation for when we’re all together in person again’.
We don’t know when that will be but being realistic if anyone has special requests for (possibly!) August and beyond let Colleen know.
Something to keep you busy while Self-Isolating!
BRAIN TEASER ON THE BIBLE contributed by Lee Suan’s sister.
LET’S SEE HOW OBSERVANT YOU ARE🧐🧐🧐
There are names of sixteen (16) books of the bible hidden in the paragraph below. Let’s see how many you can find. A preacher found 15 books in twenty minutes; it took him 3 weeks just to find the 16th one, HAVE FUN!
I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible. A certain luke, kept people looking so hard for facts, and for others, it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the names of the books were not capitalized. But the truth finally struck home to numbers of our readers. To others it was a job. We want it to be a most fascinating little moment for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help find them. I will quickly admit it usually takes the preacher to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea so she can concentrate better. See how you will compete. Relax now, for there really are sixteen books of the Bible in this paragraph.
LIST THE 16 BOOKS. HAPPY SEARCHING!!!

May the light of Jesus shine on you,
May his spirit fill your heart,
May the sense that he will walk with you,
Be there at each day’s start.
May the peace of God sit deep in you,
May it calm your every fear,
Today, tomorrow, for all time,
May you know that he is near.
