30th April 2023
We welcome everyone who joins us for worship today, the fifth Sunday of the month, which since January 2021 has been known as Synod Sunday. Those with internet access joined these services and when Covid restrictions were relaxed and we started holding services in church the Synod Sundays still continued but we also had an alternative service in church for those who didn’t have internet or preferred to worship in person.
Those services were led by Michael Howells, and today is no different as Michael will lead today’s service which will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper when all are welcome to partake the bread and wine.
However today there is no Synod Sunday service as we received the news on Wednesday that the URC had been unable to produce a service for this weekend and that they are being discontinued. SO today our congregation may be slightly larger and the service will NOT be livestreamed.
The URC offered the following alternatives to those who wished to remain in their homes.
Join Rhyl URC on Zoom for their weekly service https://unitedchurchinrhyl.co.uk/worship/ If you plan to join Rhyl, do get in touch with their Minister Revd Paul Robinson, who would be please to know who is joining them remotely.
Alternatively you can watch a recording of the URC’s 50th Anniversary Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration, which took place at Methodist Central Hall, London, on Saturday 15 April 2023 https://urc.org.uk/who-we-are/our-50th-anniversary/service-of-thanksgiving/ (NB this service is over 2 hours long, so you may want to select highlights! Click the YouTube logo on the video to take you to a page where you can download the video for playback with no internet connection.)
Tea and coffee will be served in the hall following the service and handmade cards will be on sale.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers:
Next week we will say farewell to two members of our congregation, Mary Robins and Loreen Davies.
- On Wednesday, 10th May the funeral of Mary will be held at Glyntaf Crematorium at 2.15pm. We hold Mary’s daughter Helen, grandsons Dylan and Owen and all family members along with John and others who have been a part of Mary’s life for so long, in our thoughts and prayers as they gather to say ‘Goodbye’.
Loreen’s Funeral will take place on Friday 12th May, with a service at 1pm in ‘her’ church, St David’s Uniting, led by Rev Simon Walkling, followed by interment at Glyntaf Cemetery at 2pm.
We continue to keep Loreen’s son’s, Adrian and Greg and their families in our prayers as they prepare to say their final goodbye to their Mam.
- We think for those who are struggling with life and pray that they may feel our love and support.
- We are aware people with hospital appointments this week and we hope they will receive good reports.
Thanks…..

Thought for the week
We are all like pictures that must not be looked at too near.
They that come near us find more faults and badness in us than others at a distance know.
