12th September 2021
We continue our Season of Creation as today’s service, is being led by our Minister. It is a Zoom service and has also been delivered in paper format to those without access to internet. It will be available on our web site later.
The members of Castle Square are very pleased to announce that they will meet twice a month, on the first and third Sundays, from the first Sunday in October.
The Members of St David’s have received a bumper bundle of documents for the AGM. Phil’s report, which is very enlightening, includes the agenda and the names of Elders to be affirmed. – the advice is to take time in reading the reports; there is a lot to think about! If you haven’t received the documents either by email or by hand and would like a copy, please contact your Elder.

Church Family and Pastoral News
We include this in the news sheet to inform our prayers.
- We are very pleased to hear that Cyril is now back home!
- We send friends of the church Sarah and Dan Dorrian our love as they welcomed 8lb 5oz baby Erin to the world on Tuesday.
- We remember those whose health is poor, especially Bernice, and those concerned about hospital visits and we think of those who are involved with their care.
- Maralyn T has new fashion footwear as she has a stress fracture. We hope it heals quickly!
- Colleen Chambers has arrived in London and is settling in ahead of her Masters course at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases and Katherine Chambers has arrived in Toronto ahead of her Masters course in Literature. We wish them well in their studies.
Good News
Marlene has had good cause to celebrate recently – as well as celebrating her special birthday last week, her grandson Evan has been awarded a Distinction in HNC Electronic Engineering AND has a permanent post as a systems engineer.
Birthdays this week
People we know who are celebrating their birthdays this week: Tuesday 14th Ray Vincent. There may well be others who have birthdays but haven’t shared the date with us, whoever you are….’Have a good one!!’
Thanks
Thank you to everyone for the cards, gifts, calls and good wishes that I received on my birthday – they made it a special day. Marlene

Future Zoom Service
Creation Communion. Next Sunday evening, at 6pm, we will be having a zoom story-telling Communion service on the theme of ‘creation’. Come along to tell or listen to stories of God’s wonderful, scary, beautiful, hurting, amazing creation and our place within it. Usual zoom link details.

St David’s AGM
In these transient times, we hope all church members – and those from our wider church family who wish to – will be able to participate in the church meeting. Alongside attending the meeting in person, members can attend via zoom (including by ‘phone!), or if both these possibilities prove difficult, members are invited to pass on thoughts about the papers shared and issues being discussed, to their elder or pastoral buddy. Your understanding and patience as we attempt this hybrid church meeting for the first time is greatly appreciated!

A Gradual Return.
Whilst there is still some anxiety around, we continue to gradually transition to our new normal routine of church life. Last Sunday, Castle Square decided to meet on first and third Sundays from next month whilst on Wednesday, we enjoyed the first of our weekday film afternoons at St. David’s Uniting Church as friends from both congregations and beyond shared laughs and happy memories about holidays of the past (next film afternoon: October 13th).
Plans are already in place for after-service refreshments from next month, when we are hopeful that we might include limited singing within services. We look forward to seeing more members at the St. David’s Uniting church meeting next Sunday but whether you are already enjoying being back on church premises or still have reservations about gathering there, please know that a warm welcome will be there whenever you are ready for it.

Support for Afghan Refugees
Many of you will be aware that RCT will be participating in the resettlement programme for Afghan refugees. If you’d like to find out more about how to help, then please get in touch with Catherine Naamani who’s liaising with the local authority on behalf of Valleys of Sanctuary and St David’s Uniting. Alternatively, you can add your name to the circulation list by completing this online form: https://forms.gle/TxDZcVBjfNLuWgED9 ‘
Care4Calais needs money for new underwear and socks, and for the cost of hiring storage units and van transport whilst any donations given to DPIA – www.dpia.org.uk – will help support refugees from Afghanistan and elsewhere as they resettle in Wales.

Iestyn’s Marathon!
He is running the Brighton Marathon TODAY – it’s only been postponed 3 times, but looks like it’s going ahead this time!
He’s running for Sussex University where he studied, in aid of research (Psychology Dept) into mental health. Mental wellbeing is one of the major public health challenges of this century. From children’s mental health to how acts of kindness affect our wellbeing. Research is making cutting-edge discoveries and giving new hope. Many we know have experienced mental health issues both directly and indirectly.

A Thought for the Week
I think these difficult times have helped me to understand better than before how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way and that so many things one goes around worrying about are of no importance whatsoever. Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) 1885-1962
